Question:
Calling all suggestions for hobbies, activities, and other things to do?
Hi! I know a lot of us have issues with food, and one of the problems some people (including me) have post-op is finding something other than food to occupy our time/hands/mind. I lack creativity, so it is hard for me (and maybe others) to think of new things to do, so I would love to hear suggestions from others of things you have tried, would like to try, classes you've taken, things you find relaxing, etc. I will start the list --> some things people have suggested are: exercise, scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, reading, taking a photography class. Any other suggestions? — ads2e (posted on April 21, 2009)

Sounds like those are all good suggestions. There are always plenty of
volunteer opportunities in the community or church. Something that I may
eventually look into is s program called "Cuddle Babies" where
they are looking for volunteers to rock babies at several area hospitals.
There is usually something going on with the park or library district. You
may even try to think of things that you have always wanted to try - you
may suprise your yourself!!

I am an avid reader, and like to read specific "series" authors,
beginning with the first book of the series. I can disappear for days at a
time in a book. I order them from my library. I also like to bead, and
have made several really beautiful coordinating bracelets for my medic
alert tag. I put together puzzles - the really hard ones - and I play
computer "brain games." This is all in addition to getting the
house in shape and clean, and taking care of 4 fur-babies (my cats).

Take a dance class, I love writing short stories or poetry, go walking,
writing songs, creating plant hangers, reading, painting class, cake
decorating class, gardening, home improvements, 3D puzzles, tweaking my
favorite recipes like noodleless lasangna, and spaghetti squash with
meatballs(yeah I know that's food), dancing with my dog, running with my
dog, helping my mother to learn to read, helping my sister to learn to
concentrate and comprehend. Helping others is always good. Little self
projects: Hair, nails, toes, skin, etc...
