Walking the next day. Serious training about 4 weeks, but take it careful
and check with your doctors.

I started walking those halls of the hospital the evening after having RNY.
For the first week, was doing 1 mile everyday, and continued to work my way
up, endurance and speed. By my one month check up I had strict instructions
to up my cardio and get into strength training. Also to add whatever my
heart desired for physical fitness. So I would say that if you are up to
it, 4 weeks is about the "go get em" mark! Good luck!

I started walking that night as well...But I had open RNy and healing is
much slower than laprascopic RNY...so that makes a huge difference....but I
just did what I could until and worked my way to more rigorous training...I
did most of my work outs in the water...I toned my entire body swimming
laps and water aerobics...It took two years before my belly flap
disappeared. And my muscles filled out some loose flapping sagging skin..I
got "lucky" so I am told...I also worked really freaking hard to
do it...

I too began walking around the hospital hours after the surgery (I had the
lap rny)...probably maybe 5 hours after the surgery ended? Almost
immediately upon arriving in my regular room, I insisted on getting up and
walking. All the talk of blood clots/etc had me scared and motivated!
I've only really done walking, since. Actually, I overdid it a few times,
and twice ended up tearing some internal sutures. Because of that, I
STRONGLY suggest you be very clear on what your doctor recommends, and
don't push yourself past where you are comfortable. I can assure you the
torn sutures were very painful, and I ended up with massive bruising for
some time.
As far as "training" exercise, I assume you're speaking of far
more intense activity than just walking. I would recommend telling your
doctor exactly what you mean...let them know if you're talking about
running, lifting weights, swimming, sit-ups, whatever. They would know
better than anyone what is best for you and at what point in your recovery
that it is appropriate.
Good luck!

Walking the same day, but exercising at the gym, 6-7 weeks post op as per
my surgeon. Best bet is to check with your surgeon. You really need to
give your body time to heal.
Good luck!

Walking 2 hours after RNY. Going to the gym and doing aerobic type
exercise about 10 days post op (no weights). Full workouts including
weights at about 3 weeks. Swimming at 6 weeks, wanted to make sure that my
incisions were completely healed first! I am 3 months post op and I go to
the gym 3 days a week and ride my bike 8-20 miles 3 times a week.
