Question:
I'm 18 mo post op for RNY, having some nausea, with discomfort/pain in pouch area.
Have had no problems since my surgery, but in the last 10 days I been have some nausea and a little discomfort/pain in the pouch area. Any ideas as to why? The only thing I can think of that I'm eating that I didn't before is the Kashi (sp?) granola bars. Now it seems I have it all the time, either nausea or the discomfort/pain which is worse at some times than others. — Sheila H. (posted on September 12, 2008)

I could not tolerate kashi bars - I am 14months post op rny also. I think
it is the soy - I stopped eating them altogether and feel better.

I don't know that much about Kashi really, I would suggest that you track
your intake and times of nausea and see if you can pinpoint something. If
the Kashi is new and the nausea is new.... perhaps???
Don't these granola bars have too many carbs for us WLS folks? Remember,
focus on protein and veggies.
Good luck,

If you're 18 months post op, then you should have a really good
"feel" for foods that bother you. I'd stop the Kashi bars,
especially if those are the only new foods introduced into your diet. If
everything was OK before the bars, and now you have "issues",
then I bet it's the Kashi bars. DAVE

I have been told by my doctor that granola bars are too fiberous for some
people to eat after bypass. Some do fine w/them, others cannot tolerate.I
would stop them for awhile and see how you feel. Soy is actually good for
you, it is the fiber that will swell up and make your stomach hurt. I have
had these same troubles and I am 6 months post-op Bypass pt. Best wishes.

Remember the old Joke? "Doc, it hurts when I do this."
"Well then, don't do that! That'll be $50.00 dollars. Next!"
