Question:
Are "whole wheat" crackers still bad carbs?
I know white flour crackers or bread are bad for you, but what about whole wheat crackers, are they any better? How about Triscuits, for example? Do they still turn in to sugar when digested like white flour products? Thanks — Gina S. (posted on August 3, 2008)

My surgeon has crackers on the "no no list" for post ops. It's
one of those foods where you can eat the whole box, while not thinking.
Same as many other foods too, peanuts, potato chips, etc. So doc said it's
best not to get into that habit. DAVE

I have a few of the muli-grain crackers when I have tuna or some kind of
meat salad. I don't eat bread, and I am not the kind of person who can
just eat tuna, chicken salad etc. plain. I also have a few with peanut
butter. I have never had a problem with wanting more than a few.
But...that's me.

My sergeon allows Whole Wheet Crackers after 6 months. I use one or two in
place of a slice of Whole Wheet Bread, but I waited the 6 months before I
tried them. We also were warned to count them out and put the box up
before eating. It is too easy to loose country of how many you have had.

Whole wheat is whole grains are good carbs....We need carbs for energy.
They are lower glycemic foods which mean they don't spike your sugar.
Whole grains are harder for the body to process, so they go thru
undigested...A while cracker for instant, is ground to a fine flour and
your body just LOVES it...The bad bacteria in your guts just make a NICE
gassy feast on while flours and sugars (simple carbs) Because simple carbs
are so easy to digest, your intestinal flora crave more more more...Whole
grains are still carbs...but carbs are not the enemy...calories are...So
eat carbs and fats in moderation...many people including doctors have
opinions...but surgeons are not usually dieticians so they go by the same
info we all get...They hear the rumors and the diet fads and the CARB
MONSTERS and all the carb diet food companies trying to make money...Too
much protein is not good for us either...but you NEVER hear anyone say
"Too many proteins are very hard on the body...The fact is...they are!
Moderation is the key to success...You just have to work that out between
your pouch and you head...You head is often times the biggest trouble
maker...even over carbs...simple or complex....

Hi there, my husband and I are both Lap-Banders (he since May 07 He has
lost 124 pounds and me since Oct. 07 I have lost 61 pounds) We always read
the labels on everything we eat. We have found a couple of crackers that
are low in carbs. One is Old London Bagel Snacks garlic and it has a total
of 7 grams digestible carbs per serving of 5 and the other is Ritz Simply
Socials whole wheat which has a total of 8 carbs per service of 4. When we
buy the box we get zip lock baggies and separate the servicing size into
the baggies and then put them back into the box. That way they are already
counted out. Both of them are very, very good and filling when you eat
them with tuna or chicken salad or anything else for that matter. Just read
the labels on everything. We watch carbs mostly because that works for us.
Remember total digestible cars are the total carbs minus the fiber and
sugar alcohol. Pork skins are good also but read the label. I hope this
helped. Take care and God bless.

My doctor said crackers are ok in stage 3 because they would rather have us
have crackers then bread. I eat peperidge farm baked whole wheat with a
little hummus or veggie dip. also when I have tuna salad. The whole wheat
is ok, as long as its a complex carb we can have it. DONT sit down with the
whole box in front of the tv or anything, but you can see that a serving
size is usually an ounce, which equals to what 20 crackers, there is no way
I could eat 20 crackers anymore so I take about 4 or 5 put the box away and
Im good, most of the time my 2 year old takes half of what I have, so I
dont even get the 4 or 5 anyways! Shes my little walking portion
controller!

Whole WHEAT doesn't mean anything different or better. Whole GRAIN is what
you want to look for.

Whole grains, single grains... they're still grains and grains are starch
which is just another name for sugar. Sugar is the glyceride in
triglyceride which is the stuff in fat cells.
You've gone through all the expense and bother of having this surgery, why
sabotage yourself?

3rs postop RNY - recently went to the dietician to reevaluate my caloric
intake. I was told to bring up my caloric intake to 1400-1500, and to add
complex carbs to my diet such as whole-wheat crackers, bagel, or english
muffin to my diet. I had "regulated" my system, so I didnt feel
the need for fiber in my diet and only ate carbs by source of fruits,
veggies, cheese, etc.
