Question:
Does anyone used the 100 mile reimbursement through Tricare/Triwest?

I just had gastric bypass and I had to drive about 200 miles to have it done. I know they also pay for my husband to take me. I am submitting all my paperwork tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone could tell me about how much does this pay. I have a total of 5 appointments then the actual hospital stay of 2 days.    — Kimberlin Katayama (posted on June 30, 2008)

I had heard that Tri-west did that but never submitted any thing. I had my surgery done at an Army hospital about 40 miles away so I don't think I would qualify. besides my entire surgery was at no cost to me, other then the trips down to the hospital.

Probably not much help as we're in the North Region...but have you checked online (www.my TRICARE.com) or maybe even calling the DEERS office...they maybe know who to refer you to...?? Good Luck !!

I have Tricare south since I am in Mississippi, The university hospital is 138 miles away and I have been reimbursed every appointment by Tricare. I had to go to 2 actual appointments, 1 outpatient procedure, 1 support group meeting and was reimbursed for all expenses. These included motel and food and gas and parking. We were only reimbursed for the food I actually ate, including taxes and tipping(but had to be seperate receipt from hubby and son). The motel was up to a certain per diem rate which I think was around 86.00 but they pay taxes too. I will be going in next Wed for my actual surgery and my husband and son will accompany me and the motel and hubby's food will be reimbursed up to the Per Diem rate for the Birmingham, Al area. Per Diem rates are different for food and lodging expenses. And depend upon the going rate for the area. We are able to stay at a Marriott at the per diem rate there are cheaper places but hospital is in a very bad inner city area so we opted to stay next town over. He will be able to stay in a motel in Birmingham the whole time I am there instead of traveling back and forth. We will all be at the hotel tues night but after that only he and my son. The only thing they won't pay is the boarding kennel for my dog( I didn't ask anyway!!). We actually submitted our expenses after each trip and the reimbursement was depoosited within a few days. Congratulations on your surgery!!!!!

I have been back and forth from my doctor around 9 times. I have submitted my receipts for 4 or 5 of those time and was reimbursed via check within a week or two. They paid for gas and the cost of food. I would either make sure you fill up your tank before you go or while your there which ever cost the most! Most of my reimbursements were around $75 dollars, that was a fill up on my car and food. They would only pay for lodging if my appt was before 9am. Make sure you keep all your receipts and turn them in within a reasonable amount of time.
