Question:
How many calories should I be taking in a day?
Hello again - I am now at 4 weeks and the scale is moving - ever so slow - I have lost 17.5 and am happy with that. I have one more question - when I saw my surgeon I remembered to ask how much liquid, protein etc - but I forgot to ask what my calorie intake should be - any suggestions? Thanks Joanna — machre (posted on January 17, 2008)

Your aftercare packet should have included a list of exactly what to eat
and at what stage. If you do not have that, I would find a nutritionist
TOMORROW. If you are walking, taking your supplements, getting in your
water and protein, and gettign rest you'll be fine. Post your question on
the RNY forum, I'm sure someone would be happy to get their lists from that
stage to you. I'll look for mine but I'm really not sure where they are.
Please let me know how you're doing and be mindful that it's going to take
some time to get it off. RNY is a tool and you have to do the work yourself
however you just had a major surgery don't be too hard on yourself! If it
keeps up then contact your surgeon!

At 4 weeks, calories shouldn't really matter. You'll be on a limited amount
of semi-soft or a few solid foods. Your surgeon has some protocol that he
tells all of his patients--what to eat, what foods to avoid, liquid intake,
vitamins, calcium, etc.

Joanna; I'll be 4 weeks out next Monday & I just asked my nut this
question this week - she said 900-1200 calories a day. There's no way I
can eat that much, no way. I know different surgeons have different
guidelines, but that's what I was told.

I never counted calories. I just ate what my body could tolerate (which
wasn't much). Everything worked out fine for me. I still don't count
calories and I have pretty much maintained my weight, even after 2 babies.

You didn't state which surgery you had. I was told with my band not to
count calories. What's important at 4 weeks is your protein. Get in
enought protein for now and water. I'm 3 months [post op and I'll have to
agree with the previous poster. Eat what your pouch could hold but eat your
proteins first and not count calories

This a caloric needs calculator. Calories do matter. If you are not eating
enough or so before loing you will not lose the weight that you need to. It
is the same as getting too many.

My doctor told me between 500-600 calories, eating 3 ounces of protein
first and then my veggies if I could. I am three months out and I still
sometime don't have room for the veggies. Weight loss is going really
well. I do not snack at all.

1st off, congrats on ur loss!!!!! I got my band in November and my 1st post
op visit I was down 18 lbs. I just got my first fill last week and I am now
down 25lbs. :( I feel like the loss is too slow. My Doc says at least 800
calories a day. I myself dont see this possible but.....
