Ischemic bowel happens when the blood is cut off to a certain part of your
bowel. This causes injury and inflammation. If blood flow is cut off for
long enough, the section of bowel involved can die. It can cause
gangrene.
I'm not sure what info you are looking for. Feel free to email if you have
more questions.

This happened to me about four months after RNY surgery. I had about the
most severe pain of my life at the onset. The pain came on very suddenly
and lasted for hours before I was mercifully put under anesthesia for
emergency surgery. I was told that there was a two foot section of bowel
involved. Fortunately it "came back" and did not have to be
removed. Obviously, these things are life threatening if not corrected. ***
In addition, about a week after surgery it was discovered that I had a clot
in one of the major arteries that supplies the bowel. I was hospitalized
for this for a longer period than for the original bypass surgery. The clot
was less serious than the blockage I had four months later but I was on
Warfarin (a blood thinner, sometimes known as "rat poison") for
over a year before the clot disappeared (determined via CT scan). ***
Anyone who has had bowel surgery has an increased probability of such
things happening, even years afterward. It's unfortunate that the bariatric
surgeons are not warning their prospective patients of this risk. On the
other hand, most of would probably want to proceed with surgery in spite of
this potentially life threatening risk.

You might want to go to yahoo grads, where these kinds of problems are,
sadly, fairly routine. Only a few ischemic, but the SBO (small bowel
obstructions) are discussed way too often.
