Question:
I need to know what an average day of eating is like for a Bypass patient
Could someone tell me what you eat from breakfast through snacks and dinner after you have gotten through the liquids and pureed foods. I need an idea of what to stock my pantry with.I'm a firm believer in if it isn't there I won't eat it-i just need some realistic food advice since all I have heard about is the liquid phase and the pureed phase.Any advice that has worked for you? Even if it is routine food I would love to know what it is please. Merry Christmas! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on December 21, 2007)

I am 4 years out and can eat pretty much anything except for milk and ice
cream. I do eat a lot of soup. I could not really tell you what to stock
up on because you really won't be eating that much for a very long time.
It is a lot of trial and error at first to see what does and does not agree
with you. Best wishes! You will be so thrilled with your results.

I had my surger 17 months ago. You'll need your protein drinks. But you can
snack on healthy foods also. Limited amounts of almonds are one. Another
one I found the other day is dried peas. They're cheap and 1/4 cup is 6
grams of protein. I also found some small tortillas at the local market.
These are "flavored", like roasted tomatoes and basil, etc. and
tend to have about 6 grams of protein per 9" tortilla. Several flavors
are available.

My surgeon's program also hands an awesome book that I am trying very hard
to stick to! For week 2-4, these are the foods that are allowed: cottage
cheese (LF or NF), yogurt (NF-low carb, no seeds, fruit pieces, nuts or
granola), string cheese, eggs (any style), refried beans, chicken (thinly
sliced deli or soft, moist canned), turkey (thinly sliced deli) and fish
(soft, moist, fresh or canned, and shellfish). And water and protein
drinks. Then, for the 2nd through 4th months, all those foods plus these:
tofu, creamy peanut butter, cheese (NF or LF), lentil, split pea or black
beans, canned, carrots (soft cooked, fresh, canned or frozen), beets (soft
cooked, fresh, canned or frozen), mushrooms (soft cooked, fresh, canned or
frozen), spinach (soft cooked, canned or frozen), squash, green beans,
asparagus (tips only), broccoli (very well steamed, fresh or frozen, tips
only), cauliflower (same as broccoli), fresh fruits, peeled and cored
(non-citrus for 6 months, membrane removed), unsweetened canned fruit
(packed in water or natural juice, drained), small amounts of margarine,
oil or cooking sprays, small amounts of fat free mayo, FF miracle whip,
butter sprays or broth to moisten food - and water and protein drinks and
decaf coffee or tea (one cup 30 minutes after a meal). I'm about to start
the 2nd through 4th month stage on Monday. I can't wait for the fruit and
broccoli!!! For the 5th month and beyond, it is about adding starches
(limited and only after eating protein first) and other things, new foods
each day. Good luck, I hope this helps!!!

progresso soups -- i make sure they are under 100 cals per serving and high
in protein and low in sugar -- chicken noodle, turkey noodle, chicken and
wild rice -- i also make what we call egg cups -- scramble some eggs and
add shredded cheese and pour into a mini muffin tray and i top each one
with a slice of pepperoni -- high in protein --easy to make -- oh bake in
the oven at 350 for 20 minutes -- then we put them into little sandwich
bags and its' a snack on the run -- we also keep SF fudgcicles in the house
for when a craving hits -- good luck :) it's not as hard as some people
make it out to be :)

Try cottage cheese with unmade Jello (just the powder), you can get many
servings from one box. It may not sound that good, but it is quite tasty.
Try eating it with some wheat crackers (if your current phase allows).
