Question:
Anyone dealing with Kaiser Permanente Northern CA?
Thus far I've attended an orientation but still waiting to meet the surgeon, nut, and anestesiologist...At what point can I consider myself approved? — Poz2Bthin (posted on November 14, 2007)

Hi, not certain how it works with Kaiser, but with other insurances, you
would consider yourself approved when you have the letter of approval (you
want it in writing).
Best of luck!

Your approved when the insurance company sends you a letter and/or your
doc's insurance specialist calls and tells you so. It doesnt typically
happen until after you have seen the doc, a psychologist and had all your
pre-surgery testing done plus whatever extra your particular insurance
requires. It took me about a year.

I have Kaiser and I'm in the Fremont Bariatric Program. I went to
orientation on 10/24/07 and I just got the call today to set up my
consultations (surgeon, nutritionist, case mgr.) and that is for this
thursday. I understand that you have to be very proactive with this
process. calling in yourself to see how things are going. I was told by a
few patients that have had the surgery, that once you are accepted to the
program and start the process it is very rare to be denied.
