Question:
Discount Dining Card??
Ok, maybe I did not get the memo but, we went to a resturaunt tonight and I asked the cashier if I could pay the kids price considering I eat like three bites. She asked me if I had a "Gastric Bypass Dining Card". I had no idea what she was talking about. Anyone know about this and if so, where do you get one? Thanks! — AllieT (posted on August 18, 2007)

I got mine from my surgeon's office and I have never been turned down when
I presented it. Get one. It is well worth it.

I'm 9 months out and have never gotten it but I thought you had to order
off the kids' menu and those foods are usually higher in fat and calories
even if they are smaller portions. Tonite I shared 24 shrimp and a huge
portion of rice and salad bar with my husband. There was plenty for both
of us and my son finished what we didn't. The entree was $13!

Yes, I have a card that I carry in my wallet. My surgeons office and the
hospital
gave me one.. not to many places accept it, but it never hurts to ask.. and
its
great in case you have an accident, as you place it behind your Drivers
licence...

I got mine from my doctor and I have used it. You can order from the kids
menu or from the seniors menu.

From your page on OH, click on the red "My OH" at the top of page
under the white search block. After that page loads, click on Restaurant
cards about halfway down the page. You can print it out, but you will need
your surgeon to fill it out for you. I have only eaten out once since my
surgery ( 4 1/2 months ago) and I just ordered from the weight watchers
menu and took home the left overs for reheats the next few days. It was
good!) Good luck and God Bless!

I'm only 3 months out with a lap band, so I don't have much experience
using my card. My surgeon did give me a card, but it wasn't as much a card
as a piece of paper which had been copied too many times and was kind of
"bent" and speckled. They tell you to laminate it and put it into
your wallet. So I did what I normally do.... I re-created it!
I just used MS Publisher and put all of the text onto it - my version looks
way better and more professional, I have to say.
Our support group leader has cards that she gives out too.
Has anybody been to Red Lobster for dinner? They have a special light fish
menu - I ordered Tilapia cooked with white wine and vegetables in a
parchment. It was really good. they have a half portion and a full portion,
but even the half portion was a full filet of fish - I couldn't believe how
much food it was for a half portion. I even confirmed with the waitress
that it was just a half.
Good Luck!

i got mine from the dr's office. I use mine all the time. I have only been
asked to pay for a meal once. even then, they only made me pay the youngest
childs price. even at buffettes, most don't make me pay. i make sure that I
point out the fact that i can only eat 1/4 cup of food at a time. Most
people are not educated about WLS, so the more that we educate the public
the easier it gets for everyone. make sure you get a card asap, I never
order my own meal, and even at restaurants that say no sharing, they let me
off the hook when i show them my card...good luck

I got a dining card from my doctor along with an emergency card that states
I have had wls and emergency medical personnel should take care when
intubating....I ask about everywhere we eat, but not too many places take
them. However, I have been told that there is no reason why adults can't
order from a kid's or senior's menu. Most restaurants won't argue with you
when you do it because they can't discriminate!! I haven't had anyone tell
me I can't order a kid's meal....Good luck!
