Question:
I am considering the lap-band. Was anyone scared of being intubated?
I have a fear of intubation, and I also have a fear of knowing that the port is in place. Can someone Please help me? Did you feel the port aftrer surgery? How long? — Shauna247 (posted on June 8, 2007)

Of course everytime you have surgery there is a risk. Intubation is a very
mechanical procedure. They give you some happy juice in your i.v. on the
way to the o.r. and by the time you're on the table they put an oxygen mask
on your face and you're asleep. Next thing you know you're in the recovery
room waking up.
If you expect a positive outcome more than likely that's exactly what
you'll get.
The rewards after surgery far out way any possible fears. At least that's
the way I looked at it.

It is ok to be afraid...but I am not sure why you are afraid? I have had
several surgeries in my life & being intubated during surgery is a part
of it. I can tell you, you won't know it and altho sometimes there is a
slight irritation,it passes quickly & you are on the path of healing.
Please share~ what you are afraid of?

I just had surgery on Tuesday and this time didn't even have a slight sore
throat due to the intubation. They do it after you're out and removed it
before I was awake.
This was my time to have a drain. I wouldn't have known I had it if they
hadn't of checked it. It was removed before I left the hospital yesterday
and the removal was easier than I had feared it would be.
Take care,

I had this surgery March 15 I have had 8 or more other surgies.I have never
had a sore throat or anything with the incubation. You feel the port.It is
tied to a muscle ,so if you pull the muscle you can feel it a little
more, but you can feel it when you push on it with your hands. You have
nothing to worry about,it is ok to be scared. If you have any Questions let
me know.Sandy Hanson

I had my Lapband on May 23rd and I was talking to my husband and the next
thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. I have had many surgeries and
just said a prayer before I had my surgery. It is worth it.

I totaly feel you. Im considering getting surgry myself and im so scared of
the intubation. I have had two c-sections and those werent too bad because
i was awake and knew what was going on. when i had my gallbladder removed i
was so anxsious that they had to give me alot of happy juice to clam me
down. I always pray all the way into the opperating room and i know that
no matter what happens god is always with me. KIT. Mary
