Question:
I am 3 weeks out and I am afraid that I am not getting enough protein.
I am eating nf yogurts, nf cottage cheese, nf carnation instant breakfasts, ... is there anything else that you can recommend that I could be eating/drinking to get my protein up? thanks Linda Taylor — lindataylor (posted on March 21, 2006)

Hi Linda - congrats on being 3 weeks out... I am 5 months out and have
found 2 protein items that i really like. Muscle Milk from GNC - the 17oz
container has 34g of protein - the chocolate tastes really good - must be
cold!! then there is Power Crunch bars - find those on
www.bariatriceating.com - those are great. 14g of protein and low sugar
(4g).. I drink one muscle milk each morning and then have 1 or 2 power
crunch as snacks during the day - or sometimes just for lunch if i'm busy.

Hi Linda... congrats on your recent surgery! Hope you're feeling well! I
would definitely suggest trying Profect - these 2.7 oz. vials of fruit
flavored protein. You can buy them at www.protica.com. They're incredibly
small vials of juice like substance that taste delicious and have 25 grams
of protein in each one. Hope this helps... let me know if you have any

Are you doing any protein shakes? At this point you should be doing 1-2 a
day. You can buy Any Whey and add it to yougurt, pudding, tuna. What
about tuna it's pretty high in protein.

There are literally hundreds of good, smooth, tasty whey protein drinks
available today. Any will mix with a small amount of water to give you 30g
protein, under 5g sugar in 4-8 oz of water. I routinely do 180g protein in
supplement, but I don't recommend it for everyone. It's 6 easy drinks for
me.

Hi Linda -
I do not recommend the S/F Carnation Instant - its not enough protein..Try
the Nectar Flavor Brand for protein- they are tasty- like Fuzzy Navel -
its tangerine + orange ( mix it with Crystal Light Sunrise, add some cool
whip and you have a liquid creamsickle) or even their new Cappucino Latte
or their Iced Tea ( I LOVE this one- mix it with some CL Lemonade or even
Diet Arizona Iced Tea- and its delish) or try Carribbean Cooler- it tastes
like a Pina Colada without the alcohol..add some strawberries or pineapple
or even a frozen s/f ice pop and you will love it! ..I've done Designer
Whey- several flavors- all good- AND- Im not a big chocolate person- but
the Muscle Milk Oatmeal- also comes in brown sugar- and I like it- even
better than the vanilla bean..the power crunch bars are great- I love
peanut butter- and proti-bars- have 15gm of protein in each bar- so one
drink and one bar- and you have 41gms protein right there..most docs
recommend 50-70gms a day.. good luck- Donna
