It all depends on what company you are getting your insurance through. My
job wouldn't pay for the premium to cover the surgery, however my husbands
did. I would just call the insurance company with the group number or any
information you have on the policy and ask if it covers gastric bypass
surgery. I went through Aetna POS and I had no issues at all! I was
approved within 24 hours and that was on their 3 month diet plan.

My insurance, First Choice, does cover it. However, they would not cover it
for me because I am to healthy. I am 167 lbs over weight and have a BMI of
50, but because I have no 'life threatening' problems, I dont qualify. So,
not only do you need to ask 'if they cover' the surgery, but ' for who'
they will cover it for. Good luck.

Good luck....... I'm having the same question. I was just denied with Cigna
after "jumping through hoops" for 7 months! I now have a choice
with my job (school district) between Pacific Care, Blue Cross, or Kisier
and ALL THREE said, "not covered even if medically necessary). Let me
know if you find any company that has covered surgery since 7/1/05. PLEASE
