Question:
WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS SHOULD I ASK MY SURGEON.
I HAVE SEEN HIM ONCE AND WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A LIST TO TAKE WHEN I GO BACK. — Martha S. (posted on June 8, 1999)

I got this information from another web site and you may find it useful.
This is a sample of questions I found at
http://webhome.idirect.com/~acampbel/ossg/preque.htm
1.Pre Surgery
What pre-testing do you require? (Blood test, EKG, gall stone ultrasound,
upper GI, lung testing,chest x-rays, etc.)
What should I do to prepare for the surgery? (in general) I have heard deep
breathing helps,what does he suggest?
Do I have to do anything special the day(s) before surgery? For example,
have a clear liquid diet or wash with special soap?
Do you require psychological testing? Do I do it through your office or on
my own?
If I have asthma and/or sleep apnea, how will this effect the pre, during
and post surgery?
~~~~~~
I hope this helps and best of luck to you!
I have sort of gathered a list of questions that I asked, along with what
others have asked. Not all may apply to you, but email me & I'll send
'em along.
Some of the questions I would ask are! What kinds of food
could I eat after surgery? What vitamins do I take after surgery?
What are the disadvantages, and advantages of this surgery?
How long does it take to recover from the surgery?
In addition to what the others have said, I'd ask how many WLS has he
performed, is there a support group, what about follow-up, how long in the
hospital, which type of surgery is best for me (try to know what type eater
you are)...
I had a whole list of questions to take with me. Then before
I ever met with him he sent me out a handout of information
that pretty much answered them all. My list is 19 questions
long. If you would like me to send it to you e-mail me privately
and I will be glad to. [email protected].
Hi there...there are several things I asked my surgeon, I had a list of 28
questions when i went to my appointment.
1- does the surgeon work out a teaching hospital ? if so, will the surgeon
be the only person to work on you(no interns, no students, no surgical
nurse closing you up)?
2- what are the credentials of the anesthesiologist? do they have a
positive standing with the AMA and state physicians licensing board?
The list goes on and on...feel free to contact me through e-mail if you
would like some suggestions on questions to ask your surgeon. Best of
luck...
