Question:
I'm Stuck-Not Losing. What did I do wrong? What is the 5 day pouch test?
I've seen reference to this many times on this site but have not seen any explanation of what it actually is. But I'm interested now because I've come to a plateau. I'm just a week short of 2 months out from RNY and am stuck at the same weight. I'm drinking my 64 oz of fluid and taking in 60 grams of protein per day but nothing is happening. No sugar, little fat and no white carbs with occasional wheat muffins. I'm exercising and I've been EXTREMELY faithful in following the eating plan but I'm not losing. Was losing a pound a day right after surgery but now nothing. Everything is at a standstill! Did I somehow blow this procedure too? My first appointment with my family doctor, referred from my RNY surgeon (insurance will not cover me seeing the surgeon again), is on Monday, December 7th. I just can't fail. Anyone have any good suggestions for me? I'm desperate to see this through to success!! Any advise will be so welcome!! — annteekee (posted on December 3, 2009)

Congratulations on reaching the losing side. It is perfectly normal to hit
a plateau at this time. I am at 3 and 1/2 months and I stalled around 2
months also for about 10 days. It is very frustrating. Keep following the
rules and be patient. Soon the scales will start moving again. I am down
60 pounds now. Good Luck on your new journey.

To answer your question, the 5dpt is just another crash diet. It's
designed for people more than a few years out that have lapsed their
surgical rules (carbs first, drinking with meals, etc) and it's to help
them "get back on track" -- but does so by doing liquids for a
few days, then soft, medium, and regular foods. Unfortunately, it's also a
hard cut-off of all carbs, and it's just a crash diet for this reason.
This won't help you -- you're in a stall, and it's normal at this stage.

Congrats! and no you have done nothing wrong ..as far as ican see...your
body needs time to catch up to the losses as we lose the weight. Plateaus
are normal and yes, frustrating, but keep doing what you have been and it
will come off again. Try eating at different times, exercising longer,
etc..in other words..try mixing thing up a lil to trick your body into
losing mode again. But it is perfectly natural and normal. Best of luck!
hugs n God Bless, Kim

You're doing good, Sandy. My one suggestion is to quit weighing yourself
every day. I never weighed myself until I went to my doctor's appointments
and then it was fun to see the big numbers.

My surgeon warned me of times when the scale says I'm not losing. He
explained that even though the scale isn't moving during that time we are
likely losing inches instead of pounds and not to get discouraged! I would
say make sure you are doing your exercises and that scale will start moving
again just be patient and stick to it! =)
