Question:
diverticulitis and surgery
Does having diverticulitis still allow you to have surgery? — cuppaloopy (posted on November 12, 2009)

I was diagnosed with it at 17, but as an adult, as long as I stayed away
from things with small seeds, I didn't have any cramping, so I don't know
how accurate a diagnosis it was. Had the VSG (sleeve) this year, age 56,
and the constant diahrrea I had before has cleared up. Best bet is always
to talk about it with your surgeon. One proceedure might be better than
another. Remember, the whole goal of WLS is to improve your health.

I have been diagnosed with the same. The surgeon told me the affected area
is completely different than where they operate. I had the RNY 10/20.

If you are not in the middle of an attack or coming off an infection you
can have the surgery. Stay away from seeds and nuts. I have not had any of
those for over 6 years and no more attacks.
