the first week is usually liquids then soft mushy foods for another couple
of weeks. Stage 2 type foods..if your clinic offers that. Everything from
scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes , to soup that has been sureed, cottage
cheese, jello, anything you can think of thats soft and mushy. lol It may
sound awful, but the time flies by and you aren't hungry at all. best of
luck! hugs,Kim

My first week at home was still clear liquids - broth, sugar-free jell-o,
Iso Pure Ready-to-Drink protein, New Whey protein bullets in Celestial
Seasonings fruit zinger teas, and water. Had to have so many grams of
protein and so many grams of fluid. If they could both be combined, so
much the better. But one bottle Iso Pure and New Whey bullets both contain
42 grams of protein, so just sipping on them during the day gave me my
protein. They're not at all unpleasant. I don't like water, so I had a
lot of flavored no-calorie water on hand, like Aquafina Flavor Splash. I
also drank a lot of broth because it felt good on my healing pouch. After
a week, I was allowed to eat fat-free cottage cheese, smooth yogurt, Egg
Beaters, Taco Bell refried beans with a little cheese sprinkled on top, and
fat-free-sugar-free pudding. That lasted for about a month. The key is to
remember your portion sizes - ONE OUNCE VOLUME ONLY. I went to the liquor
store and bought a package of "Jell-O Shooter" cups - they are
exactly the right size for portioning out your "meals". And, you
need to eat at least 6 times per day, remembering NOT to drink 15 minutes
before you eat, and no drinking during your meal or for 45 minutes to an
hour AFTER you eat. It's a challenge, but you can do it. Some
nutritionists recommend mashed potatoes, and pureed soups, but mine said
"no". She said that part of the plan was to stay away from the
"white carbs" (rice, bread, potatoes, pasta, popcorn, etc) for
the rest of your life, so why eat them post-operatively when you're just
going to have to quit eating them in a few weeks? And the reason for not
letting us eat pureed soup was that it doesn't contain enough protein to
make it a good meal idea. Same thing with salads. She didn't want us to
fill up on anything that was not "quality" protein.

After the the liquid diet I have enjoyed cottage cheese, hummus, avocado,
and i make an awesome cauliflour "mashed potatoes" there are alot
of low-cal recipies online. I make them with cauliflour, salt, pepper, sour
cream and butter. It goes down really easy and taste great too! Best of
luck with recover :-)
