I woke up in recovery thinking, "what have I done?" and I am not
going to lie to you it hurt. I just had my surgery on 7/29 so it is fresh
in my mind. My sister had surgery before and my first night home I text
messaged her because I was in so much pain and she reminded me that this is
just a blip in what will be the rest of my life... and I expect it to be a
life that I can soon start to fully participate in! Yes, your first few
days will be painful, but ask for pain medications when needed. Don't try
to be brave... you have to get on top of the pain and stay on top for
several days to let your body heal. I still have a drain tube coming out
of me... hoping to have it removed when I go back for my post-op on
Thursday. I don't know you or where you are starting... but let me just
tell you I know you would not be having surgery tomorrow unless you have
already gone through so much and become so tired of your life as an
overweight person. I wish you well and pray God will bless you through
this process!!!

I had my surgery on May 18,2009. I went in with not a worry in the world
because I had a thought a long time to make sure this is really what I
wanted to do. So I wasn't nervous or anything when I went in for surgery,
because I felt I had made the right decision. So when I woke up after
surgery, I thought I was going to die! The pain was so terrible I started
asking myself what did I do. They gave me a pain pump so I could push it as
needed. I basicly kept my finger on it and it was just not doing the trick
to stop the pain. I am 32 years old,but I spent the whole day after surgery
crying because the pain was so bad. It does last several days after surgery
but each day is better than the last. So about day 2 1/2 I start feeling
less pain and I really started moving around. So to make a long story
short. You will be in a lot of pain. It is normal. Don't let that
discourage you or think something is wrong. Just remember that you made a
great decision to change the rest of your life. I promise you the pain you
feel the first several days will pass and you will begin a wonderful
journey. Good Luck and god bless..........

Ihad my bypass on 7/21 and had and have no pain. I had the pain pump and
didn't need it. Haven't had any pain yet. Surgery on tuesday afternoon
and home by thursday morning. Only problem was the gas, but walking helps
pass it. Now just waiting for all the pounds to go away. Good luck,
everything will be fine.

My most vivid memory is being sore and having trouble sitting up. I was
covered pretty good in the hospital with morphine. But they sent me home
with liquid lortab. Just remember this don't get stuck in a recliner
alone. My husband ran out to get a few things leaving me to relax in the
recliner and I couldn't push with my legs to get the foot rest down to get
up. I was stuck and panicked. Funny now not then. He tied a dog leash to
the foot board to help me sit up in bed so I could get up, sounds weird but
it really did the trick. Good luck. You'll do fine!

I awoke from my RNY surgery at 1:30 p.m. in recovery, was back in my room
by 2:30 and up and walking by 5 p.m. I had very little pain and didn't use
the pain pump that much. I was discharged 48 hours later and a one-week I
was back at my desk working a full day. I think the surgery is an
individual thing and some breeze through it and others have a rough time of
it. I also had 4-way coronary artery bypass and found this to be a breeze
as well, but definitely lots worse than the RNY surgery.

I was ready and eagerly waiting for my surgery. I had no worries about
dying on the table or suffering any complications, or even having much
pain. And when I woke up in the recovery room, I was pain-free. When I got
back to my room an hour later, I had a LITTLE muscle soreness, but the
morphine pump once in a while took care of that. I was up and walking the
halls two hours later, and walked two more times that afternoon-evening. I
guess it all depends on how you react to pain. I have a pretty high pain
threshold, I guess, at least when it comes to certain kinds of pain. When
I got home, it was a little more awkward because I don't have a recliner,
so had to sleep in a flat bed, and it was harder to turn over and stuff, I
pulled a muscle about 4 days after I got home, and that made it hard to
take a deep breath. But, I had some hydrocodone/tylenol pills, and I just
broke them in half and took them a couple of times per day, and I was fine.
I think a lot of your experience AFTER surgery depends on how you think
going INTO it. Not always, but many times. I just placed myself into the
Goddess' arms before I went to sleep, and knew that I would be okay. And I
was.

Rembember everyone is different. I woke up from the surgery very tired. I
think I slept most of that day. The next day. I was fine I was on the pain
medications for two days and that was it. I have not taken any of the pain
medications at home either. I had my surgery on 7/29/09. Good luck

Congratulations on your surgery! I too had surgery on the 3rd. I am home
for my first night and so relieved. I have to say that the pain I had in
my left shoulder and my left side where the drain was stopped me from
breathing and moving. Once the drain was removed I am MUCH better. As a
matter of fact, beside not lifting things and not picking things up off the
ground I am almost 100%. I am not sure if the hammer is going to fall
soon, but I seem to just be like the energizer bunny right now and can not
go to sleep.
I hope your surgery went well. Keep me posted [email protected] I would
love to keep track.
