My md noticed my hair is falling out and in bad shape, she suggested taking evening primrose oil, does anyone know if this is something we can take? Its a gelcap, i am wondering if by the time it goes through i wont have absorbed anything. — sassy1696 (posted on July 10, 2009)

You can take it. It won't hurt you. You can dissolve the gelatin part,
that's not the problem. As long as it gets saliva, it'll dissolve. The
only issue is that if you have RNY or DS, you can't absorb fats/oils to any
reliable degree. I got some on a nearly-free sale and am eating them
anyway. What if I get 10% of the good stuff? ....
about hair falling out? how far post-op? what is your protein and vitamin
regimen? How much water, as in water, do you get in?

Hello, Hair loss is common. I had fine, thin hair prior to surgery. At
about month 4 it began falling out. I was devastated. The doctor did
bloodwork and there was nothing severely out of sync. So, I began taking
biotin. I also began using volumizing hair products. Nioxin was the best
and the most expensive, but worth it. I also went to the salon and told
them of my problem. I was given the BEST haircut I've ever had. It's
layered and just barely touches my shoulders. I use a little mousse and
crunch it up a bit. I'm almost 50 and have ALWAYS hated my hair. Now, I
love it. I think the combination of product, cut, and biotin helped. Your
body has had major trauma with the quick weight loss. Give it some time.
Get good nutrition. I know it's upsetting, but it will begin to regrow.
Take care.
