Question:
Does drinking with meals really make a difference?
I have a condition that causes me to keep a dry mouth. So it seems nearly impossible for me to finish a meal without drinking. Does it really make a big difference and, if so, how? Thanks! Paula — PaulaJ (posted on May 28, 2009)

If you have had WLS it is Very important that you keep the food in you
pouch as long as possible so you can absorb all the nutrition. If you drink
right away to will was the food out and nutrition with it. Good luck

Yes it really makes a differance. I had sugery in Feb and just recently
took a trip to NY and I wanted to see the change and I drank while eating
and true enough I ended up eating more plus my hair is now falling out some
because I have been flushing out my nutrition. Please head warning and just
don't do it. Wait at least 30 minutes after eating before you drink.

Okay, I'm a bit confused! I thought the stomach was only there to turn our
food into liquid to get ready to be absorbed in the small intestines. And
that this is where we absorb our nutrition.
Would someone please clarify this for me? I don't want to be running
around with the wrong information!!
Thanks,

drinking and eating causes the food to wash out too quickly and also makes
you feel hunger faster...when you do get the hunger back. The nutrition
part is true..if you wash it out while eating or right afterwards, you lose
the nutritional value of the food. As for the other poster who didn't
understand this new process of our digestive tract, our stomachs (pouches)
dont create enough if any stomach acids to break foods down to be absorbed
while in the intestines, so therefore, we chew chew chew...then it goes
into our pouch to start the absorbtion process..as it slowly passes thru
the pouch and into the intestines it further gets absorbed and we get the
values out of the food. When you drink too soon after the meal, the food is
washed thru the intestines and pouch quickly...too quickly..and we don't
get the good stuff we need from the foods. Also, not following this one
rule contributes to RNYers regaining weight after...and no one wants that.
I hope this helps some. Best of luck, hugs, Kim

Don't drink during your meals for all of the reasons already mentioned. I
find that if I eat a few grapes I can quench my thirst until I can drink a
liquid.
