Question:
the waiting is killing me

I'm going to have a RNY I passed everything, and now I'm waiting for my date for surgery. I have good days and bad days, because I just want to know when I will have my surgery. I know everything has it's own timing it's frustrating waiting for the phone to ring. I'm not giving up I'm going to continue losing my weight I'm at goal now so I'll just keep on going until they call. I know I'm having a pitty party. LOL I just want to have something to look foward to that's all. Thanks for reading Theresa L    — treeeza (posted on May 4, 2009)

Hi, I haven't even gotten to see my surgeon yet to start the process other than the "wonderful" seminars w/2 other surgeons. However, I have reached a point (450#) with so many accompanying health issues that all of my doctors have told me that at this point diet and exercise will no longer help and the risks don't mean anything to me because I am dying any way. I feel for ya. I really do. Don't give up because believe me - you don't want to get to THIS point where the RNY is IT - last hope for ANY time to live!! So, cheer-up and lets wait this out together and - we'll make it ok!! One day at a time - not robbing ourselves by the hauntings of the past or the expectations of the future - just wake up (put the phone in the drawer, lol) - enjoy SOMETHING you like - can you still walk?? Go for a walk and enjoy the fresh air (I have to use a power-wheelchair). Hey, one neat thing someone taught me is to lay down and daydream of the things you will be able to do after the wgt is gone - forget money - it's pretend - daydream about places you will go - things you will do. Got any friends? Get call waiting and make phone calls and cheer them up - it will make you feel better!! HUGS!!! God bless ya, Gail

If it makes you feel any better, I gave myself a pity parade when I was waiting on a date for my lap band surgery. I think we spend so much time being overweight and struggling with it, that once we jump through all of the hoops to get approved for surgery, we want it to come right away. Try not to stress about it too much. For me, it helped to STOP reading message boards and researching surgery every day because it was making the days go longer, So, I started focusing on other things, like re-organizing my apartment, cleaning out my closet, going out with friends, etc. It helped me pass the time a little. Good luck.

Oh Darlin', I'm in the exact some spot you're in. I go May 16 for to find out when I'm going to have my surgery. Like you, i've lost the weight I needed to lose, but I, to, am still losing. I haven't gotten to the pitty party yet but I'm really close. It wouldn't take much to put me over the edge. Good luck for your date.

Hang in there...because before you know it you're going to have the surgery over and done with. I think that nearly every one of us who has had the surgery knows just how you feel. It's so danged frustrating! It sounds like you're kickin' butt, though! You're doing exactly what you should be doing. The more you take off now, means the less you have to worry about later. You didn't mention if you are exercising, or not. Even just walking will help you tremendously, and the muscle you build now is really gonna help burn that fat after your surgery. As I said, hang in there...this too shall pass...and you will join us post-op'ers as we search for our recipes and tools of the trade. It's coming...and I pray that everything will go smoothly for you. It did for me. My surgery was a breeze compared to what I'd prepared myself for it to be. I hope you are one of the lucky ones like I was. God bless and good luck! :) Huggs, Paula
