Is there any one in the Hamilton / Stoney Creek Ontario area?

Dear T, I am wondering why you do not want anyone to know? Co-workers not
knowing is ok, but your family and friends are the one's who love you and
will support you! I needed them all when I had mine done. I wish I lived
near you so I could help you through this! Have your Mom come the first
week as she will be most helpful especially with the personal things.
Washing up, etc. Your Mom probably said that as she wanted to be there for
you, Mom's can be very possessive with their daughters! I want to tell you
that you will love the results of this magnificent surgery but you also
have to work out and watch what you eat! I have totally changed my eating
habits and exercise daily! I am 16 months out and loving life again! I
always had good self esteem, even when I was 303#'s. It sounds like you
need to take a class on slef esteem to learn to love yourself or you are
still going to have a hard time post op. As the weight comes off, the
regular problems that you have in every day life do not go away. I wish you
a lot of luck on your surgery. If you need to talk, just email me! Add me
to your friend list so I can keep tabs on you! Lori in Michigan

Trinity,
I am concerned too as Lori is. You need love and support from people at
this time. If you don't have it; you will find yourself and whatever
problems in a thinner version. You can talk to me; I am here to share,
listen, cry, pray, moan, celebrate, dance and be human with you. Every
improvement we make in ourselves brings us a little closer to who we want
to be. Hope to hear from you soon. Good Luck and God Bless You,

Trinity ... I add my concerns to those who've already posted. You really
do need the support of your family and friends at this time; and if you
can't tell your fiance what your concerns are, who CAN you tell? Anyway,
while I don't live in Hamilton/Stoney Creek, I live in Oshawa (east end of
the GTA) and would be happy to email back and forth with you. I'm going on
nine years out from a VBG -- what makes me feel REALLY old is that they
don't even DO that kind of surgery any more -- so I can at least give you
the view from further down the road. You can get my e-mail address off my
profile. Blessings --

Trinity, Yes, there are lot's of people in your area. In fact there is a
support group meeting in Hamilton this Sunday. I may even see you there if
you decide to come. I live in Mississauga but we need all the support we
can get right? I'll PM you with the details of the meeting and of the
Ontario forum message board where I've received so much wonderful,
non-judgmental support and advice. Good luck in your journey.

Hi Trinity, unlike the others, I can completely understand why you might
not want to tell others about this. I am in St. Catharines and going in for
surgery tomorrow morning in Toronto.
Being scared and nervous is completely natural, it is not just you. This is
a major life change and there are always dangers with any surgery and you
are normal. Please pm me it you want. I should be home by Sunday afternoon
if you want to talk about it. It will ALL be fresh in my mind!! LOL
Best of luck to you!

Trinity, I totally understand how you are feeling and your family
responses. I do not live in your area, but we can chat. I am in the
process of doing the three month preoperative program for insurance and I
too have decided just to tell my immediate family which is my brother.
This is a difficult journey personally within it self. Negativity,
pestimism, judgement, and gossip is not what is needed while you are trying
to change your lifestyle and eating behavior. Some people do not have the
most supporting families, and that is why I have reached out to other
individuals on the site. So, be strong and know you are not alone. Please
feel free to email me at [email protected] at any time and we can chat and
go from there.

Well I'm not from that area, I'm a kentuckian, but I know what you are
talking about when it comes to family. I went for the lap band, and I knew
some of my family would not agree so I just slipped off and done it and
than come home like nothing ever happened, of course they did find out. I
got out of the hospital and walked in church, and my mom had already told
them, but they didn't realize I had surgery. One woman said so are you
going through with it, and I had to tell her I already had it yesterday..
lol
Good luck and know you have to do what you think is right for you. I
have'nt lost but 20 lbs in a year and a half, but I dont' regret it,
atleast I dont' gain. I have alot of back problems from surgeries so I
dont' get to excersize like I should. but that's no excuse I haven't been
having fills either because of one bad experience.
