How long after surgery do you get your energy back.... or get energy at all?

of course everyone is a little different but generally 4 to 6 weeks before all the anesthesic is out of your body and has recovered fully recovered from the trama from surgery. You can help this by making sure you are getting enough protein and water.I used 3 protein supplements a day in the beginningand the food i ate was extra.lost 265 lbs so it worked for me.Protein provides energy

I had laproscopic RNY and a week after surgery I was walking about 3 city blocks. I followed my Doctor's program exactly as required. However I agree with the previous writer to feel fully recovered, took me about 4-6 weeks. You may feel great, but your body needs time to recover. I have been very very fortunate in having no side effects. Good luck!

I had lap band surgery November 18. Though I had no complications and my recovery went well, my energy took at least four to five weeks to come back. I went back to work after two weeks and that first week was extremely tough. I was exhausted every day when I got home. Every week after that got better. It's now been two months and it's no longer an issue. Just be sure to do what your doctor and nutritionist say, as they've seen all the different things that can and do happen and can advise you best.

I will have to say that having some energy come back was about 3 weeks. But to feel "normal" again or better took me about 3-4 months. I am a teacher and the first month or so back to work was rough and took me a while to get a good groove. But everyone is different. (btw...had lap rny)

I think while you're losing weight your energy levels kind of wax and wain. I know for me that's how it was. I had a good amount to lose...and my surgeon stated that when you lose a lot in a short amount of time...it can take a toll on energy levels. So keep exercising, that helps the most, getting your B12, your protein, and plenty of fluids. When you get closer to your goal...you'll get into a flow for yourself and sometimes it's just telling yourself to get up and move and breathe you'll find yourself having more energy than you realized. I am over a year out...lost over 120 pounds now...and my energy has good days and bad depending on how I've cared for myself the day before or that day. I definitely notice if I don't get my rest or when I haven't done right by myself with the protein and fluids. It takes awhile...but you'll get there...I promise! Hugs and best wishes! Cheryl

I think it's different for everyone...You need plenty of rest while healing the first few weeks...Open RNY takes much longer to heal and the pain drained me...While I would start the day feling like I could run marathons...but by half way thru the day I lost my "oomph"...I had more and more energy as I lost weight and my comorbidities stopped...It was about a month when my brain and body both had the same amount of energy...

My energy level after my lapband is amazingly good. I had surgery on Wed, went back to work on Monday and I was not tired at all. I am totally surprised how good I feel. I had no discomfort from the gas and never took anything more than Tylenol for pain.
