Question:
I am concerned that my surgery is going to get cancelled. I feel cold coming.

Will they still preform the surgery having a cold. Can anything bad having a cold at time of the surgery, it is scheduled for this friday!    — twinsplusone (posted on September 22, 2008)

if you are getting sick, or have a temp. they will usually cancel surgery. You don't want your body under the stress of getting ill and then the added stress of surgery.

My surgeon said if it is just the sniffles or allergies, or mild symptoms he wouldn't cancel, but if it were a fever, and more severe symptoms, it would be cancelled/rescheduled.

It could go either way, I would recommend getting some Airborne or something over the counter and some good vitamins to help yourself as much as possible. Lots of fluids and rest as much as possible. Good luck, if you truly are sick, you don't want to go through with major surgery. I know you've waited so long and are anxious to start your new life and all, but, be cautious. Dawn

I am a HUGE advocate of Airborne and Zicam ... Every three hours when you start to feel something coming on ... If it's just a cold, that should kick it within a day or so. Good luck!

My surgeon would not operate eggven with a sniffle...he puts his patients on ZICAM to prevent colds...The stuff works! I have had only two maybe 3 colds in 4.5 years now...and only one was worthy of being called a bad cold! I do ZICAM as soon as I feel a cold coming on...Load up on Vit C too! Good luck!

I am having surgery this Monday the 29 Sep and I was told if I had any allergies, a cold and a tempeture they will have to re-schedule. Due to the anestisia they are going to use on me is General anestisia and me being an astma person, they want me as helthy as possible, for a faster recuperation. Hopefully this info helps.

call your PCP, ask him to check you out. YOU DO NOT want to be sick going into the surgery. They will just postpone it a few days, not MONTHS. You need to be honest with your surgeon, if you are sick it could cause complications. I know it sucks to be this close BUT I had the "sniffles" a few days before and though the same thing CRAP, but it turned out to be NOTHING. Wait and see what tomorrow brings. Good Luck on Friday!
