I had RNY, but my seergeon did some trial work for a few years on that band. It is made by Johnson and Johnson, and is now approved. It uses the principal that was developed in 1985 in europe, and the bamd is simular to a lab band but does not slip as easly later on patients. My sergeon dos only RNY and the new J&J band, and no longer uses the Lap Band. Lap Band has the name and the advertisments right now, but ask your sergeon. I think you will like the J&J band better. I had too much to loose and had diabites which RNY cured, so I just was not a canadiate for the Lap Band.

I have the realize band. It allows you to eat real food sooner after surgery, has a support website, and the port is a little different, it has less chance of flipping over. It's worked for me so far!

There is a new band they are using that is suppose to have less ability for slippage.......I have the older one and have never had a problem.....they also have a new surgery called the Sleeve......I've heard very little about it and results are not in as it is fairly new. I have the realize band too. I think many more physicians are starting to use this depending on what they "see" when they go in to operate. Good for some peoples and not others. determines this when he is in surgery. I think what the person meant with eating regular foods sooner is...You are able to go and start your "regular foods" sooner and start your new life. I think their comment just came out wrong. Also you can have a fill after 4 weeks instead of 6 with most bands. This band holds 9.5 cc of saline. Go to the website...it will be helpful. There are different brands of bands. This seems to be the latest and greatest.

I had the Realize band done on 7/7/08 and i fill great. what i liked about this band is it is a little fatter so it is less likely to slip. I have 11 people i work with and they have original lap band and did'nt lose much post-op until fills but i'm 8 days out and have lost 18 pounds so not sure.alot of my friends could eat after surgery but so far i hav'nt been able to so maybe it restricts more. anyway hope this helps. Good Luck-Dawn
