Yes, you should call your doctor. The doctor told us to call if we went 4 days without a movement. Pat

i wouldn't call the dr just yet you have to remember you haven't had anything in your system but liquids and before your surgery you had a bowel cleanser you are probably still on liquids so theres nothing to yet come out when you are able to start eating then be concerned but right now you are still cleaned out. be patient

i had a bowel movement inthe hospital before I left. I didnt have a reg bowel movement of course not as muc food in our system when just on liquids but i would think you should of had some kind of bowel movement by now. I think it all depends on how reg you were before you even had surgury? my sister was never with bowel movements and she still isnt after surgury either. How do u feel? If you feel any back aches or stomach pains i would consult your doctor. I would call him any way it wont hurt to ask, to be safe. May just tell you to take a stool soften or like my sister she takes milk of magnesia and that helps. Are you on pureed foods or any foods yet. that will also factor in once you start foods even pureed foods will help the situation along also. good luck!!! linda

Hello Allyson, It's pretty normal. Remember you have not started on solid foods yet -- you are still on liquids and your stomach is healing itself. So just keep your fluid intake up and the BM will happen when it's time. I think it was about 2 weeks for me. Trust me -- enjoy not having a bowl movement because when you start on solid foods -- you will be going more than you ever thought. Just keep up your fluids.

You can call your doctor, but I feel that he will tell you to give it a few more days. Everything you are consuming is very liquid and before surgery you took something to clean you out, so that little bits of solids you are eating just has not worked it way through yet. If you feel like you have to go but can't then you will need to get your doctor involved to advise what he wants you to do.

Ouch, I know what you are going through. I had a revision on 12/31/07. I was doing high protien Ensure through the G-tube and started having daily BM's after the fourth day. I was in heaven. I thought he had fixed that problem as well for me. You see I have always suffered from constipation. Well it seems it was the Ensure making things happen. When I stopped using it, the BM's also stopped. I was determined not to let myself get too blocked up this time (I did with my original RNY). I have been drinking a cup of "Smooth Move" tea if nothing has happened for a week. I have used Fleet supositories, reccommended by doctor, also Dulcolax with a stool softner. Fresh pears also help as well as boiled peanuts if you live where they are available. Good luck.

Hi, I had my procedure on 2/13/08 and ddn't have a BM until today. I would check with your doctor, but my doctor suggested that if it hadn't happen by today that i should try Ducalax suppositories or Sleets ennema

have you passed any gas? you should definantely call your doctor and see what they recommend. any time you have abdominal surgery, no bm is a big deal!!! the lack of a bm can mean many bad things, so just let them know and see what they recommend. i had a bm the day i came home and it was very bloody, so i kinda freaked out and called my surgeon to double check- well, my next 2 were bloody as well, but then it regulated. good luck and don't just assume everything is ok!!! Saw my Dr. yesterday & he recommended Benefiber. I just took my first dose (3 HUGE chewable tablets!), so we'll see how it works. I had RNY 2/5. Judy Kniep
