Sorry can't help you with the water, I had no problems drinking after. The
head hunger, what ever you can do to get your mind off the hunger. Get up
and walk, get into those projects you always said you were going to but
never did-- cross stitch, sewing, organize, do research etc. Also, chewing
ice chips helps the mouth and fools the stomach into thinking your eating.
That also might help get more water in. Get your hands busy etc. Good
luck, God bless and welcome to the losing side!

Sometimes you can feel hungry when you really are thirsty. Keep some sugar
free popsicles around and try to drink more.

Congrats on your recent surgery. I had a problem at first with water. Are
you sitting down while drinking? For several weeks after my surgery I
would get stomache pains if I drank while sitting, so I stood to drink. As
far as hungar I cant help. I did not have hunger for several weeks post
op. Good Luck

try warm/hot tea to get things going - helped me in the early stages.
warm/hot tea in the am got things lubbed and ready for the rest of the day.
head hunger - in the beginning stages was hard for me, too. I did whatever
I could to get my mind off it. went for a walk, did a puzzle, played cards,
did a word search, read, talked to a friend. good luck

Are you drinking through a straw, if so do not. And only do a small
medicine cup at a time if more then that it does hurt. I say if you can
get 45 ounces down to start you are doing awesome.
I did not have problems with head hunger I was too motivated to do what I
needed to, which was get up walk and get up and keep walking more.

It was work to start with for me. I am 3 mths out and am getting 120 ozs
down now but just take it slow and try to get a little more down each day.
At first I was full after 1 oz of fluid every 30 mins. the next day try to
double that amount. It never hurt with cold liquids but I know someone who
it did hurt. She said that drinking warm broth soothed her pouch. So try
that. But on the liquid just try a little more each day even if it is not
but 1 oz at a time. My surgeon said that anything that is liquid at room
temp counts as liquid. Popsicles, jello, ect...
Good luck and hope this helps.

Yeah your on your way. I had a problem with cold water. Try drinking it not
so cold. As far as head hunger, they told me I wouldnt be hungry and I am
sorry but I was. Once you get the water down you should be fine. Did they
tell you that you can eat sugar fee jello? I was when I was in the hospital
and that was the 2nd day.

Congratulations on the beginning of your new and improved life. It just
keeps getting better and better. I am just over 4 months out of surgery and
at times I still have problems getting the fluids down. My doctor asked me
how much I get in and then he told me that it gets easier to get them down.
I have to say he was right on that one. There is still times that it is a
problem but not as much as before. As long as you are getting at least 45
ounces right now I wouldn't worry to much. But if it keeps up tell your
doctor about the problem. You don't want to become dehydrated either so be
careful and keep alert for that.

Try room temp water or even make a non-decaff tea and see if you can get
that down. I always drank cold water, and following surgery, I was never
able to go back to it again. Remember that you have some raw tissue in you
new pouch and you might need to take something to coat it. I had to get a
perscription for Ulcer medication to allow me to eat and dring correctly
but that was about two weeks out. Never had head hunger. I ate one wrong
solid thing and go very sick, and that cured me for a long time of eating
anthing other than what I was told to eat. I can go without and go to a
dinner party with freinds and not eat anything and just drink water. I
never could have done thing before surgery. Work at it, things get better
every day, you will see. Best of sucess.

I am 11 months post-op and I had the same problem in the beginning. I
could not drink cold or room temperature water...it would give me stomach
cramps. If I added crystal light to it I would do just fine. I ate a lot
of sugar free popsicles and dranked hot de-caf tea. Also, try chipped ice
and sugar free jello. GOOD LUCK !!

I would do warm or room temp water, if you add a little lemon to it, that
may or may not help?! I would not do Crystal Light, they are connecting
that to kidney stones and other problems and anything sugar free typically
has artificial sweetener, that is bad news- it is genetically modified and
causing many health problems. Good luck! If you want more information on
what to avoid and what is healthier- please feel free to email me at

Hi! i'm three days out and have found that drinking warm decaf tea is
helping. Was such a water drinker before but now I am preferring the warm
liquid. Best of luck!

Warm broth, and later herbal tea worked for me. I would feel cold if
drinking some cold water. I sneezed from it. I did have some sugar free
popsicles but my husband loves them and eats them!
I was less hungry than you seem to be. I did not eat that much. I drank and
drank from one item like broth to V8 juice.
My nutritionist said maybe I drank too much. I do not know.
I cleaned and cleaned the first four weeks. I am getting restless and eager
to return to work for the company of my friends.
Blessings to you as you journey this long road. I am here to encourage you.
Do what you can when you can. You will make it.
Linda
