Question:
I feel like I am on the slow train compared to everyone else
Feb 05 I will be 3 months post op and so far I am -50lbs. The first month to month 1/2 I lost big amounts like 15 then 8 and so on, now I am losing 3 evey two weeks or so, does that men I am eating wrong? Should I be at a faster speed? I know everyone is different and I am happy I have lost 50 thus far, how ever my goal is to loose at least 40-50 more. Im doing good with protien amd pretty good with vitamins, now my fluid intake is poor I just can't seem to fit it all in I am lucky if I take in 40oz could that be the reason. I fast walk for an hour every night and I dance for about a half hour cpl night out of the week... advice please... — VivianTapanes (posted on January 23, 2008)

The same here. I'm 7wks out and i've lost 36 lbs. and the same is happening
to me now. I'm even in the gym now and have been for 2wks. I can't drink
alot either, i'm still trying to figure out how i can get 8 glasses of
water in one day and my stomach is bearly 3ozs. But anyway keep up the
exercise and meds and we'll see more results over time. I know alot of
people who has had surgery and within the year the look great and has lost
the weight. Thanks Lynda

There is no slow train...so don't sweat that. I'm right behind you (3
months on 2/21) and have only lost 54 pounds. I am so happy with that I
can't describe. Your body has been trhough a lot lately--surgery, then
drastic weight loss all at once. The first few months is when the majority
of "fast" weight loss occurs. It's bound to slow down to a
consist pace. Your body is probably just acclaimating itself to all these
changes. Use a tape measure and keep track of your inches lost. I'll bet
that if you do this you'll see changes (keep up the exercise to make sure
they continue). The weight will keep coming off. Sometimes probably
faster than others but don't let that get you down, it's working, and
you're helping it work by doing the right things to follow your plan. And,
by all means get that fluid in, no matter what. It's so important. Good
luck to you, Leslie

What diet have you been on that you've lost 50 lbs in 3 months? Your slow
down period is perfectly normal. I went thru this 4 years ago...I worried I
was doing something wrong or eating too much...try to remember WHATand HOW
MUCH you used to eat and you'll see you are doing well...Just like a diet,
there are plateaus and periods of weeks where you see nothing.
You all are doing great. Your body is confused and fighting to maintain
what it is used to. It's doing it's best to try to figure out what happened
to all that food it was getting. Give yourself time and in a year...you all
will be very happy with what you look like. Remember too that weight is
just a number...start measuring yourself and you will see that even when
the weight doesn't seem to be moving as fast as you want...the inches will
still be coming off...and the more you exercise...the faster and better you
will look and feel even when you don't see big numbers...eventually hard
work pays off...

I too feel like I have plateaued already from surgery on December 4th. I
lost 30 lbs. before the surgery and 20 lbs. after, but have been at a
standstill for 3 weeks. I am doing 70g of protein, vitamins and 51 oz of
water plus am walking a treadmill 5x a week for 40 min. Dr. says not to
worry, that the body is just adjusting. I am truly hoping he is right. I
also have another 50 to lose. We just need to hang in there and let it
happen.

Come on you guys!!!!! 36 lbs...50 lbs??? That's wonderful! If you could
have done that without surgery, you (I) wouldn't have had WLS! You are
awesome loosers! I had surgery 5 years ago (in a few days) and I lost 100
lbs... no more, no less. I still have to lose??? 20 lbs to get to
"goal"...but, 36 lbs? 50 lbs??? I'll take it! You are winners
in my book! Keep up the good work. Laxi

50 lbs in 3 months -- that's great. Fret not, I went through that too.
I'd loose 2-3 pounds one week and then nothing and I'd be working out as
well. Then I'd not work out for a few days and BAM! pounds gone. Every
body is different so. The rule of thumb is it will take the first 12
months to loose 100 pounds so don't panic if you're not loosing fast --
your body has to slow down and catch up with itself.

You are doing marvelous!I had alot of problems; still do, getting in all my
fluid. I still have problems eating meat. I also have problems excercising
enough- I lost a total of 100lbs. It was more but I gained a few back due
to some medication I have to take; but it took me a year to lose- please
don't be impatient with yourself. Celebrate your victories- in different
ways. Really listen to what your body is telling you. I am still learning
how to eat! Somedays I can eat some foods that I can't eat on others and
ALOT has to do with my state of mind. I have to set my self up for success
by making my meals- a beautiful and calm experience- never mindless. If I
am not calm and relaxed I can't eat or feel well when I finish. I am still
a prisoner to my disease of wanting to eat too much or the wrong things-
but thank goodness now my stomach stops me with pain. I still try to avoid
this- but I still fall victim to mindless eating now and then or to cover
what I am feeling. I had my GBP in 4/05. Couldn't be happier with results,
and know I couldn't be here with out the surgery. Please be gentle with
yourself, meaning don't beat yourself up and don't be in such a big hurry.
Another way it was explained to me is during the first month weight loss
can be big or small- bodies first adjustment. 2nd-6 month faster weight
loss; the fastest period. Then your body starts to slow down gradually over
the next year to two- depending on how much weight you have to lose total
the less you have to lose the slower you lose it.Your last 20 pounds could
take 2-6 months to lose. Don't despair- it's better than giving up and
eating wrong and gaining. Which some people seem to do. They get close to
goal and think they can eat what ever they want and you will never be that
way again. But you can have a wonderful relationship with food- just
changed. Sorry for the rambling, but be proud, you are doing great!

My Goodness..I feel the same way I will be 3 months out on Feb 9th and Ive
only lost 36lbs! I thought this was suppose to be the "fast"
period. Im soooo very scared this isnt going to work for me. I keep a food
journal doing good with protien, water etc. and I power walk 25-30min
eveyday, Im just confused too. I wish I could be at 50lbs right now!

AT 34 months out, I think you should be eating more protein, like up to 60
grams a day, and go up even more. You need the extra protein. Your weight
loss may work now, but in a few monthbs it will not work anymore unless you
take in more protien.
