Question:
My stomach is always
making gurgling noises. Does anyone else's do this and what causes it all the time? Also, does anyone else like get too much air in and all of a sudden it comes out your mouth with a hickup kind of noise? It is not burping, not sure what it is. — missyheffelfinger (posted on October 15, 2007)

It is your pouch telling you you are full. I do it all of the time and so
does my mom. It can get kind of embarrassing if you are out somewhere! It
happens all of the sudden and it is hard not to be loud about it! My son
will always say, "okay mom, no more for you!" He's 5 and he's
got it all figured out!

But making the noise because I am full doesn't make sense because it does
it whether i have eaten or not. Constantly making funny noise.

Hi Missy, I am almost 4 weeks out and actually had an app. with the surgeon
today for follow-up and I asked him this very question!
He told me that what is probably making so much noise is my "old"
stomach. You know, the bigger part, not the new pouch. He said that as it
gets smaller, it will growl, kinda like it did when it was hungry. (I never
let mine get hungry before surgery lol) but he said it was VERY NORMAL and
nothing at all to worry about. I told him it was pretty embarrasing lol
He just said , "yeah, those things can get a little rude" :o)
Hope this helps!! Take care! Connie S.

Yes yes, a thousand times yes! lol. I asked my doc and he said it's from
drinking or eating too fast. But, like you, it happens when I don't eat or
drink. I can't explain it. Doc said some ppl just swallow more air than
others. I dunno. When it gets really bad w/ me I take Gas X and sometimes
that helps. If you find anything that works, please please let me know b/c
I deal w/ this daily! lol. Best wishes, Sarah in VA

Yep my stomach has a mind of its own to. I also have the te funny hiccup
noise as well as periods of hickups. All noises seem to increase when I am
hungry. I also agree that it is embarassing, but whats a girl to do? lol

One thing that helps me is to expell air from my lungs before swallowing
drink or food. It helps to keep that air from going to the stomach. I just
forget to do it sometimes. I remember pretty good before taking meds. As
soon as I get ready to swallow, I breathe out as much air as I can. Hope
this helps some.

I'm just alittle over 3 weeks out and I have the hiccups alot. But the
gurgling hasn't started unless I've just ate and it's not often. My only
big problem is the pain in my lower stomach sometimes after I've ate and
sometimes when I'm at church and I start to get hungry. I also have
constipation problems at times. any suggestions on these are welcome, my
email is [email protected]. I still haven't healed at one end of the
big cut, and I go back on the 25th for my first fill, will this matter. I
hope to heal by than and does it hurt? I can take pain but want to be
ready for it at the same time.

Hi Missy,
I am 3 years post op and my stomach gurgles ALL THE TIME. Hungry or not.
It's worse when I eat too much but I have it either way regardless. It is
NOT your big stomach shrinking. Your big stomach is not an active organ
anymore, it's live but not active. The gurgling is fluid (bodily or added),
air or food passing through your system. It is embarrassing but it could be
worse...

Hey Miss Missy! It's totally normal post-op. It's likely a combination of
gurgling of the "old" stomach and fluids filling and or moving
through your intestines. DO NOT try the "letting out all your air from
your lungs" as suggested by another member. You will suck in more air
swallowing as a result, not less. Trust this RN...seriously do not do
that!
Take care & try beano, also how;s your lactose tolerance? and is it
worse after sugar alcohols? That could be contributing as well.

I do it all the time but especially after eating. However, as long as I
can "burp" or whatever it is, I know I haven't overeaten. If I
am too full, can't "burp" then I am miserable until the pouch
empties a little. When I start the "burping" I know to stop
eating.
