Question:
does anyone have bcbs of Ill for hospital services and aetna nap for doctors?
I am wanting to know if anyone had to get approved by 2 insurance carriers? They both require a 6 month supervised diet. — kayemf72 (posted on August 3, 2007)

I didn't have to get approved by 2 insurance carriers. I had to attend a 6
month class that was very helpful with information about the surgery. I was
also required to lose 10% of my body weight during those 6 months. GOOD
LUCK;-)

I had Aetna at the time of my surgery and was approved. I didn't need
anyone's consent but theirs. I have heard BCBS of Ill. is quite the pain
to deal with. And almost every insurance carrier out there will require a
min. 6 month supervised diet. If they do, it's virtually impossible to get
around so just do it. Most docs will want that diet done anyway, along w/
classes they require. It's so you're well-informed and aware of what
you're getting into. Good luck.

Hi M Kay C, thanks for writing. I don't have two carriers, but I do know
that if you have two that they should work together. I do have BCBS of
Ill, and they were great with my surgeries. We had their premium PPO plan
though, and chose that because of the coverage. I had Tricare for my wls
surgery in 04, but changed to BCBS of Ill with my husbands job in 06 for my
TT and a few other surgeries I needed, and kept Tricare as a secondary. It
has saved us a ton of money having a secondary insurance, and they have to
work together. I have never heard of an employer having two carriers for
their employees to where one covered hospital and one covered doctors, but
if it is with the same job, they should work together. Start you six
months soon and get started. Take care. Patricia P.
