Question:
g tube removal tomorrow
Can anybody tell me about the g tube removal? Does it hurt? Do they put a stich where the tube was? — donna957 (posted on July 29, 2007)

The g tube doesn't go in very far, so it's a quick removal and didn't
really hurt. You could feel the end as it slid through but it was over
with much faster and easier than removal of the JP drain in the hospital.
I didn't have a stitch put in, just a big gauze pad for about 36 hours to
absorb the little bit of weeping from the site. No blood or bile. So much
more comfortable after it's removed.

Most G-tubes I've experienced in the hospital as a nurse was usually
instances where my pts "removed their own" without the Doc's
permission (ha). Usually within 30min to 1hr, the site "closes
itself" or self-seals. Never had a gtube, but to JP drains-WOW, when
they're removed! Can't imagine anything more painful. (stinging)

No. The removal of the G Tube does not hurt. It just stings a little as it
comes thru the muscles. It will be out within a couple blinks of your eyes.
Congrats of your new life!

Mine did not hurt. The nurse pulled it out nice and slow so as not to
disturb anything internal. No stitch afterward. She blotted away a tiny
drop of blood and dressed it. I changed the dressing once and then after
that no dressing at all was needed. Pretty simple. Good Luck and God Bless,

Hi Donna, thanks for writing. I would describe removal of a tube as fast
and nasty. I wouldn't say painful, just fast and nasty. They should not
put a stitch where the tube way, it should close on it's own just fine, it
is a small hole. Don't give it much thought. If you think you will be in
pain, take pain med before your visit and have someone else drive you(as
you should anyway), and the pain med will help relax you. It is just a
wierd or nasty feeling to feel that tube come out. Take care. Patricia P.

I had a G-tube after my RnY and it ended up giving me muscle pain in the
oblique muscle in my abdominal area as I was bending over to clean the cat
litter box. After four days of having it in, it fell out on its own, like 3
weeks early, but it was fine in the end. Just thought I was going to get a
leak because of falling out early, but never did. When it fell out, no
pain anymore.

I had mine remove it did not hurt at all, try to relax and blow out when
the doctor start to remove it. It will be out with in second. Mine heal on
it own.
