I can't help you with the dr or the therapist and I live in Texas. But I
can tell you that you are human and you will make mistakes. If we were all
completely focused then none of us would have a weight problem. I am and
have been down the road with the vomiting. I still vomit 1-2 times a day. I
don't take ALL my vitamins daily like I should. I have to learn to slow
down and chew more. I now eat with my mouth open cuz I am concentrating so
hard that I get the worst hiccups. Your dr should have gotten it in writing
the approval from the insurance company. They can't just renig. I don't
have a support group either. Can't find one here. Please don't give up.
Take one day at a time. I see a nutristionist once a month and I can call
her 24/7 if I need her. That is who you need. Find one in your area and use
them as support. Mine is so wonderful she even came to my son's graduation.
Good luck and keep your chin up.- Sharon

Navah, don't give up. it's so soon after surgery and you need to find a new
way of thinking about food. I'm not in CA either. but a therapist is a good
idea. sweets are hard to give up, try turning to fruit. stop looking at
all the negative things you are doing and look at what you ARE acheiving.
the things you do right. build from the positive. if you can't make it to
the gym, make it around the block. start small and build from there. a
nutritionist is a great idea too. you cared enough about yourself to get
the operation, now care enough to see it thru. you're worth it 100%

Navah....My medical insurance has a rider for psychiatry or to see a
therapist if referred by my PCP. Call your medical insurance carrier, as
many have a rider in there. I can see someone 6x a year - obviously you
might need to go more often, but after an evaluation your psych or
therapist can work with you and your insurance. I am in CA - LA Area, too.
In Santa Clarita (near Magic Mtn.) and know of several support groups
around me and in the SFV. I have PacifiCare. Send me a message if you need
any further assistance.

Hi Navah, thanks for writing. You are in a pickle for sure. Many people
who choose to have wls are not fully prepared for the changes or the
challenge of what comes next, and it sounds like you were pumped for the
surgery but not committed to the change. I really don't desire to be mean
or offend you in any way, please understand this, but you have some hard
choices to make. I looked over your profile, and found nothing. There is
no information for me to even begin to understand what you are going
through. You sound young to me by the way that you are writing. Obesity
is a strong head issue. Your body wants to stay obese, it wants to win the
battle that you decided to enter. The question is now how do you find the
strength to beat what you are up against. I am not sure what you are
saying about your medical coverage, but it sounds to me like you have no
money and need help. If this is the case, then I think that your best
option will be an organization like Overeaters Annon (OA). I am sure there
is one in your area, and they are usually free or by donation. If you
can't make your support group meetings, you can contact other hospitals
that have the wls surgeries and find out when their support groups meet,
then will let you come as well. Meetings are usually one day per month,
and perhaps your work will have to work with you for your health.
Sometimes we make every excuse we can to keep ourselves in our situations.
I am not saying you are doing this, but I would ask that you examine that
for yourself and see if you are trying to trap yourself in. It is a tough
battle, many of us have been through it. The only way to change is to
decide to do it. You say you can't get off your rear and get to the gym.
Walk around the block. You can do it, you won't is the real answer. If
you want to enjoy the fruit of your surgery you are gonna have to work for
it. There is no other way. Surgery is a tool, and the work is still up to
you, and so is the choice. I understand your burden in the area of sweets.
I still love sweets and sometimes eat them until I feel sick (which is not
a lot). As much as I try, I still fall into the habit of wanting that
sugar. I am NOT saying you have a battle that I don't understand or that
you are bad because of what you are going through. That couldn't be
farther from the truth. What I am saying is that you have a great tool, it
is only a tool, but a great one. It won't fix your head, and someone with
a doctors license won't fix your head either. You have to decide to make a
change, you have to make the decision. Sometimes doctors help us along
that way, but if you can't afford the visit, then the decision is up to
you. The truth is that you are strong enough to make it, it will just be
one of the hardest things you have ever done. Stand up and fight girl,
your health is at stake. If you don't you will absolutely be like you say
in your question "Sorry" you ever had surgery. I really
encourage you to stand up and fight for your health. You are not helpless
or a victim, you are just in a very hard place. Whether you are alone or
have a friend, you can do this. It doesn't matter what you think you need
to get started, you just need to get started, and there is no better time
than today to do that. Take care, Patricia P.

Navah, I forgot to address the vitamin thing. Girl, if you don't take your
vitamins you can break down your nervous system and other important organs.
Once you begin to bring damage to these things, you will get consequences
that you cannot reverse. Please, I beg you, take your vitamins and calcium
every day, and don't forget them. They are as important to you as water
and other things, like air to breathe. This surgery is a great tool, but
it is an adult decision and we have adult responsibilities to maintain the
tool we choose to have. I know it is hard, I know the mind game is tough,
but take those pills, make these changes, and enjoy what you have, a great
tool. Take care, Patricia P.
