It is very normal to have the nerves. I think I can say we all did that same. I didn't worry too much because I have had so many different surgeries that I knew what was going to happen. I also had knee replacement surgery and that HURT! So I knew nothing was going to hurt as bad as that. In saying all that, surgery was easy. Not alot of pain and a quick recovery for me. I stayed active in the hospital and today there is even more energy. I will say aprayer for peace of mind for you. Keep in touch so we know how you are doing. You will get a nice little shot before you go in for surgery and you won't care what happens. Just enjoy the calm that it gives you....

You need to do some relaxation exercises. The book I have called .. Heal faster .. is one of the many that are out there for surgery. They say, that one of the things to do, is as you are falling asleep for surgery, is to repeat the following: I am confident in my surgeon, and everything will be just fine. -- I did it, but I had no worries, I was SO ready.

Jennifer....a few things. Being nervous is NORMAL....we all had the jitters and what if's before surgery. I had some great relaxation CD's (Barnes and Noble or was it Borders?) they helped me calm down and sleep and mello out. The day of....they gave me something to mello. I was nervous - on the verge of tears - mostly good - but some fears in there too. They got the IV started and gave me some mello juice. Don't stress too much....just keep your eye on the prize! :)

I agree with what Diane said. I don't know if you put things in God's hands but that is what I did. I did a lot of research before surgery and prayed a lot so when it came time for surgery I knew and felt in my heart that this was something that God wanted me to do besides being something that I needed to do for myself and family. I knew if I was to go on with my life I had to put my trust in his hands. We are all nervous to some extent which is very normal. You will never regret doing this. I am now almost two years out (June 28th), at goal, and have never felt better. I will be sending prayers up for you. :) Don't worry the surgery is the easy part. You are being a new life be excited and rejoice! Good luck, you will do great!!!

I agree TOTALLY with Laural D.. Put the surgery in God's hands. You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself. I am three months post-op. I didn't get nervous until about a week prior to surgery. However, the night before surgery I was so calm until I surprised myself. I prayed and asked God to give me peace and he did just that. You are going to be okay !! Just think of how beautiful you are going to be !! BEST OF LUCK and my prayers are with you.

If you aren't able to sleep the whole night, ask your doc for mild sedative, i.e. Ambien, or anti-anxiety, i.e. Adavan or Klonopin. You shouldn't have to suffer all the way until 7/11. Plus, you need to be strong and healthy and well-rested on the day of surgery! And yes, my surgeon at least, gives you some calming meds as soon as they hook you up to the IV. It takes awhile for the nurses to get you ready and the operating room ready so just speak with them and they'll calm you down. I actually wasn't nervous at all until I got in that gown! lol. Then I couldn't stop shaking!! Talk to your doc and be honest with how you're feeling. Best of luck to you in your journey! ~Sarah in VA

Jennifer, One way to fight the stress and nerves is to learn all that you can about the surgery between now and then. The fear that you are feeling is about the unknown. If you are completely educated on it, it really helps. You also go through the recovery allot easier. Fear is about the unknown. You will still be excited about the whole ordeal, but it won't be so fearfull. Take advantage of this time to start changing the way you eat and think about food. That way you will have a head start on the surgery. Good luck in your journey. You will do wonderful!! Judy, Support Group Leader

Hello and congrats on making the decision to have this surgery done! I seriously doubt that you will regret it...I had mine done exactly a year before your surgery date and have already lost close to 120lbs. now! Being nervous is natural, but don't worry...once you're in the hospital and the anesthesologist (sp?) sees you and gives you your shot...you will fal

Just relax for now - Worry about it after you have gotten into your gown and they are putting your IV in before surgery. Then unless there is some contraindication, ask the Dr to give you something to take the anxiety edge off, Thank god for Ativan, it works wonders and got me through to the other side. Medications for the week before would not come without unwanted side effects so they arn't usually given. Good Luck
