Question:
I am 4 years out. Recently I have had horrible acid come up.
During the night usually I wake up with this terrible burning like acid in my throat.I understood we would have no reflux after surgery and this is worse then any I had before. It causes me to choke on it. Has anyone had this and what is causing it. — carolhamp1936 (posted on May 22, 2007)

Were you transected? Have you been checked for SLD, fistulas or any other
condition that might "reconnect" your old stomach to the pouch?
You're sure it's ACID, not bile, right? Bile is BITTER, as well as being
very caustic. And do you know how far down the roux limb your BP limb was
connected?

Carol, I hope you asked this question right after calling your surgeon? It
sounds to me like an ulcer is getting the best of you. I have a gastric
ulcer, and take protonix for it, it works wonders. I don't seem to be able
to totally get rid of it, even at 3 years out. Please see your surgeon,
and let them take a look. If it is reflux, they can help you, but you may
need a scope to look at it. Get help right away please. Thanks.
