Question:
BACK/SIDE PAIN-- Did anyone after surgery have any pain in their right side going
into their back- like under bra strap-- not sure if this is from surgery but it sure is uncomfortable-- I'm 3 weeks post op. Thanks — Jackie W. (posted on May 10, 2007)

I started hurting all over after surgery for a few weeks. Because I was
limited on how I could move when I got out of bed/chair, I would strain
other parts of my back and neck. You may have easilly strained your back
trying to avoid hurting your scar. I would probably still mention it to
your doctor, ESPECIALLY if it worsens.

When I saw my doctor after surgery I asked him that question and he said it
was most likely my rib cage that was bruised the toos they use are not that
small. You will be fine.

YES! But I started having them 2 months out. It may just be my body
adjusting to the weight loss. Sometimes it goes all across my back;
however, when it does hurt its mostly to my left side. I sometimes wonder
if its because my job is so sedentary. I started going back to my
chiropractor and that helps a little. He has numerous WLS patients so he
is very familiar with the surgery and its after effects.
I have my 3 months post op in about 10 days so I'll ask my surgeon about
it. I also wondered could it be my breast are now too big and if that
could becoming an issue as well. I don't want to have to have breast
reduction before I lose all the weight I want to lose.

I had all sorts of pains. Don't forget, you just had major surgery! Any
pain should be mentioned to your surgeon when you see him or her, though.

Contact your surgeon and ask if this is normal. My gallbladder hurt the
same way, but that does not mean that it is the same problem, could just be
from what your body has gone through.

Hi Jackie. Thanks for asking your question. When you have major surgery
like we do, it takes quite a bit of time to recover. Your body is
stretched and muscles cut through, even the lap procedure needs a good
amount of time to recover from. You could be feeling gas pressure, you
could be having displaced pain from an incision, or it could be something
else. I strongly recommend you contact your surgeon and talk to them. If
it is something that comes and goes, then I suspect it is just the normal
part of healing and you have displaced pain from something recovering and
your body not liking it. If it stays, well that could be a whole nother
issue. Your surgeon is the best one to answer this, so please see them
asap. My surgeon told me that if I was not better every single day, she
needed to know why. Keep that as your guide. Some days I didn't feel
great, so I gave it another day to see what happened, and for me that
worked (we all have a few bad days). But the principle is if you are not
better, get seen or call in. The thing about this is that it is easier to
catch a problem coming than to have an emergency room situation a week
later. Don't ignore pain or problems, especially right after surgery.
Please call your surgeon. Take care. Patricia P.

Did you have a fill recently, this could be from over eating. I had the lap
banding. And the 3 times I overate I had really bad pains going from under
rib cage, to between shoulder blades I thought I was going to die. It lasts
for about 6-7 hours I could not lie down, set up, it affected my legs as
well. I will never do that again. I hope. But you really need to check with
your Dr. to be sure its not gallbladder or something else.
But if you over ate you just have to suffer. Hope this helped you some.
