Question:
How many people have had to have plastic surgery after losing weight?
I am working on getting a surgery date for the spring but I am concerned that once the weight comes off, can I get my body back into decent shape without the help of plastic surgery?? — sabrinaalvord (posted on December 21, 2006)

Sabrina, I am sure it depends on the amount of weight you lose, age and
your type of skin. I weighed 330(top weight) and now weigh 180 and I had
to have my arms, abdomen, breasts, and could of done legs and my back. I
am older though and my skin had been stretched out for so many years it
didn't know how to spring back :0) It was still the best thing that ever
happened to me. The surgery saved my life and gave me years that I wasn't
going to have.

Sabrina,
To be honest, I don't know anyone who qualifies for this surgery that
doesn't need plastics afterward.

I am now 32 was 30 when I had surgery done . I weighed 347 now I am down to
160 I need plasitc surgery . I think it depends on the amount you have to
lose Although I walk around with so much skin hanging from my tummy and my
breasts hang like a 80 yr old woman then to top it off my plastic curgery
is not covered and I have no idea when I can or will get it done . I would
never change a thing . I lost an actual whole person and it saved my life
from diabetes and an enlarged liver do to weight . I will by the grace of
god be able to see my children grow up and have my grandchildren . SO in
saying all of that . I wouldnt worry about the plastic surgery . Health is
first and foremost . Worry about that later . I hope to see you happily on
the lighter side soon . May god bless you and Have a Merry Christmas !!!!

I am two years post op. I have lost about 100 lbs and am maintaining. I am
now 53 years old, and although I would LOVE plastic surgery, I do not NEED
plastic surgery to be comfortable. I do not have anything (unusual)
hanging or sagging...so...I think that it is individual. Good Luck !

I am a very young at heart 52 year old. I have not had plastic surgery and
I lost 130+ lbs and still need to loose more ..but I am very happy were I'm
at right now. I started exercising 5 months after surgery and have kept up
with a regular routine. Do you need plastic surgery ...no...would it be
nice to have a flat belly...yes. I have learned to live with what I have.
But regular exercise is very necessary... to burn calories when you begin
to increase your food intake, it helps you stay young and healthy.

It depends on the person's skin condition, age, genetics and amount of
weight lost. I lost just over 100#, my husband about 170# and we both have
had 2 rounds of different PS. It just depends on how you view your droopy
skin and if you can live with it that way. I could not and I am not a very
vane person, I just felt it was for my mental health to get rid of the
excess skin. I want to look as great as I feel after my weight loss, the
same for my DH. Chris

Unfortuantely, even tho I only lost 80 lbs and was only 20 when I did it, i
have needed multiple plastic surgeries in the ensuing 35 years.
I never had bariatric surgery but i don't think that is the issue. It is
the quality of your skin, how long it was stretched out (I was obese from
age 1 to 19) and the llike. I got by with limited plastic surgery on parts
of my body for many years but with age the skin redundancy really added to
the sagging of age and plastic surgery became more and more a necessity. I
would say that if you are fortunate enough not to need it or to be able to
tolerate the excess you might still save up your cash for a future time
when it becomes really bad....

Sabrina, I am almost one year out and I do not need plastic surgery. I am
41, 5'8" tall and lost over 110 pounds. I was not a heavy child or
even heavy as a young adult. Becasue I gained most of my weight after the
age of thirty, I believe my skin was not as stretched out for as long. I
do not need plastic surgery. I believe the best you can do is drink lots
(and I mean LOTS) of water, exercise and hope for the best. Good luck to
you on your journey, and Merry Christmas!

From what I understand, most people need surgery. It depends on many
factors.
