Question:
Birth Control issue?

I am looking for advice on the birth Control issue we all face. I am 15 weeks Post op and Birth Contorl is a mandatory issue now. Can anyone offer suggestions of what works for them (or has not worked for them)?    — happyinjax (posted on August 14, 2006)

After surgery I started using the Nuva Ring. Loved it but wanted something more permanent. 6 months out I had the essure procedure done. It's a nonsurgical permanent birth control. Not sure if you want children or not. But the website is www.essure.com.

Well, since we are done having children my husband had a vasectomy over the July 4th weekend. Since we have to wait three months until NO birth control we use a combination of either really really thin condoms or the Today Sponge (my personal favorite). I hate condoms as the latex makes me itch! I hope this helps!

Me and a friend of mine both about 3 mos post op use an IUD. My friend had hers about a year before surgery and I just got mine about a month ago. So far so good for the both of us. Hope this helps.

I was using the depo-provera shot, which I liked at first because it was so easy and I didn't have to worry about it for three months at a time. However, within the year I took it, I gained 20 pounds and had uncontrollable mood swings. I've since switched to the nuvaring which is nice because I don't have the mood swings and I'm finally losing the weight I had gained. My only problem with it is that it can be very uncomfortable. I can't seem to make it fit right, it keeps slipping out and can be very irritating. My search for the right solution continues...

I have used the NuvaRing for about a year and a half and love it - I've had no problems. I have no discomfort and don't even know it's there. I liked the fact that since it's inserted directly and absorbed through my female organs, I wouldn't have to worry about malabsorbtion due to the gastric bypass surgery. AND - I only have to think about it twice per month - once to remove it for a week and then once more to put a new one in for 3 more weeks. It's great! Good luck to you!

Depo Provera has its detractors, and, to be fair, its drawbacks, but I've been on it for years and I love it. If it works as it's supposed to, it's the best. YMMV, of course.

Hello, I have had my IUD (Meridia) for 5 years and will be getting a new one this month. So far, so good. Since I have PCOS there was a chance of having multiple (& unhealthy) babies, I wanted somrthing that required no thought and no chemicals (except emmisson of a small amount of spermicide). It also makes what periods I do have, very light.
