Question:
Lap band adjustments
I am 1 month out.How soon can the dr do an adjustment? My second meeting with my dr is not for another month. At that time I think he will do an adjustment. My question is How many adjustments can they do? — grtfuldad17 (posted on April 20, 2006)

I am a bypass patient, not band, but I do know that my Dr does first fills
at 6 weeks, if needed. After that they can do them as often as every 2
weeks, if you aren't losing or if you are able to eat too much or not
feeling restriction. But every doctor is different.

Normally, the first fill adjustment is done between 4-6 weeks post op as
needed. How many fill adjustments can be done, that answer depends on
several factors and depends on what size band you have. Usually, how the
fill process works is your doctor should monitor your weight loss every 4-6
weeks after surgery and determine how much saline to put in your band by
how much weight you are losing. Each time you lose weight the band loosens
up around your stoma which will require additional fills until you reach
goal weight. Most bandsters require at least 3-5 fills before they start to
feel good restriction where they are sastified which will allow them to get
full on small healthy solid meals. Fills can ALWAYS be done years out, that
is the great thing about the band once you reach goal weight and if you
start to gain weight again you can always go back for a fill adjustment if
you find your self eating more and getting hungry between meals.
