I had BCBS NJ Plus PPO. For me the diet history was a history not a
supervised diet plan. I had to write down in chronological order every
diet plan, pill, program, drink, exercise video, class and equipment I had
ever tried, done or purchased to lose weight over the course of my obesity.
I had to give aprox my weight lost and regained and the time period. I
dont know if your plan is requiring a supervised diet or just a diet
history. If your plan is saying diet history than I am sure that in your
life you have enough dieting experiences to fill a chart - just like the
rest of us. If your plan is looking for a supervised diet I would wait
until you have the full time they require or else you might just get a
refusal for not following the requirements. Talk with your surgeon /
doctor and clarify what exactly they want from you.

Hi Cathy,
I had BCBS PPO in IL and I had a required 12 month waiting period of
supervised diet and when my 12 months was up they required 2 more months
stating my first 2 months were not supervised diet but rather examinations.
Throughout that time my doctors had written many letter and sought approval
prior to the 12 months but nothing opened up for me. You can try to submit
your request early, but I was told insurance agencies only let you resubmit
so many times before you're forever denied. Plus, I know they like it
better when you follow their rules and get approval rather than turned down
so many times, etc. Good luck!

I have BCBS-TRS and I did not wait my full year to reapply. Instead I
waited for about 8 months and resubmitted my information along with an
appeal letter stating all my medical history, how it affected my lifestyle
and work, my families medical history on both my parent side and my
sibling's medical history. I also listed all my medications I was taking
along with what it cost me each month, what it cost them, and the total
over a years time. Needless to say I listed everything I could think of.
Hope this helps you and good luck. God Bless!!

Honestly, I would discuss it with your surgeon, but my first inclination
would be to wait if you can. This is a long road, and trying to get a jump
start only to fail could be a difficult setback. Patience.
