Question:
Will eggs always make me sick?
I could eat eggs fixed any way before my surgery. Now I can't eat them at all. They make me sick everytime. I can't even stand the smell of them cooking. Any suggestions as to what is going on? — LilaDove (posted on November 2, 2005)

Hey Thelma your sickness with eggs too shall pass. I'm almost at my year
mark and I can finally eat eggs. Eggs made me sick for quite some time, but
I would say after 8 months I was able to eat them scrambled. I haven't
tried them any other way. Then again I'm one of those that can tolerate any
food item at this point, even sugar. Good luck.

I too have/had issues with eating certain foods. I have resolved some of
them i.e. chili (good source of protein) due to the tomatoes, chicken
(still have issues) and it was my main source of protein before surgery.
My biggest problem was odors and occasionally 3 months out I still have
problems. If something doesn't agree with me I wait a week or more and try
it again. I haven't tested what I can and can't eat in regards to fried,
sugar, high carb items. I stick with a pretty healthy diet protein and
veggies and have experienced no dumping. I did purchase sugar free peanut
butter cups and sugar free chocolate mints they contain mostly sugar
alcohol and no sugar. They met that craving and made me realize that I
could have 2 small pieces (serving size) and not be deprived. I did not
have the urge to eat the whole bag like I used to do. These are small but
very good steps for me to follow, and what I do may not work for everybody.

I was the same way. I couldn't get enough of them. Right after surgery, I
couldn't eat them at all. Then about a year later, I could tolerate them.
I found that if I put milk in my scramble eggs I wouldn't be sick from
them.

I couldn't eat them any way but hard boiled for 5 yrs! Now, I scramble
gently with water (fluffier) and take them out soft, not hard. I can eat
fried, too. Not sure where the change came except I cook them more
carefully now? Over all, my body issued me a new menu every 3 months or
so. LOL

My partner doesn't eat eggs a whole lot any more either -- every once in
awhile but not right after the surgery -- she couldn't stand them. For
awhile, there will be a lot of foods you used to eat that you want be able
to eat for months after the surgery.

I could eat eggs when I was allowed to eat solids if I scrambled them about
a month or so out of surgery...but about 2 months later could not tollerate
them. This lasted for about 6 months. After that I could eat them anyway
I have tried them...mostly scrambled...but sometimes just fried...but i do
not use any butter...just have a very good non stick pan. My dietician
said when you are first out for the first year...things will do that. Be
ok one day and then not the next. I found I did tha with milk also. I
could handle it...now I can..only in small quantities. So I switched to
soy and do much better.

All I can say Thelma is hang in there! Sometimes we have problems digesting
certain foods post op (chicken was my biggest problem) or our taste buds
change so that things we liked and ate post op may taste or smell different
making them unpalatable. About 4 months post op I ate some chicken and from
then on I had no problems. Just allow yourself some time before trying them
again and perhaps this will be a temporary thing for you. Take care.

Hey Thelma, I know what you are talking about. I am about 20 weeks out (84
pounds gone, YEAH!!!). I can eat about one egg a week now, but not more.
When I first came home, I couldn't eat eggs or drink milk. The smell of
roasted chicken made me very sick. But for the most part, that has passed.

I have trouble digesting eggs, too. i also do not like the taste of steak
any more, and I used to be a dedicated carnivore! Just do not eat eggs for
a while, then try a small amount. things change.

Looks like you are not too far out. I couldn't eat them right after
surgery (diarhea, baby!). I was able to start eating one scrambled I think
about 6-8 months after.
