Question:
STA RTED AT 445 LBS & HAVING TROUBLE GETTING BELOW 300 LB
ANY REALLY HEAVY WEIGHT RNY FOLKS THAT CAN'T LOSE ALL THEIR WEIGHT? WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR INPUT...SURGERY MARCH 2003 .445/300/150 — BLSLIM77 (posted on November 14, 2004)

Bonnie, So many things factor into the progress we all make as WLS
patients. I started at 442 and did reach my goal weight, however my goal
weight is considerably higher than what the height/weight charts say for
me. I set a goal of 200 lbs as I knew I would be healthy and comfortable
in my body. I hang in the 190's these days. I had surgery on Feb 3rd,
2003. The journey the SMO have to get to an ideal weight is a long one
compared to most who need to lose around 100 lbs. There is no rhyme or
reason as to the speed one loses as I certainly did not behave better than
most in my support group yet some are not as far along, but they still are
healthy and in such a better place physically and mentally.

Is it possible that you have lots of excess skin that is
contributing to that higher weight number? Is it impeding your ability to
be as active as you could be, which definitely factors into the WL? Did
your sugeon give you a super small pouch and a 150cm bypass in order to
help assure you would always have some malabsorption? Are you doing what
you need to be as far as eating and exercise. I know that at the stage I
am, the old ugly eating habits keep rearing their ugly heads and I give in
an awful lot. However, I usually know if I have gained even a few lbs and
get back on track and get the lbs off. It will always be a struggle. Have
you had your anatomy checked to be sure there isn't something wrong with
the surgery? You may end up being an RNY that needs a longer bypass to get
the remainder of the weight off and maintain a lower weight. But be
cautious of going too long and make sure you understand what your life will
be with an RNY and a long bypass. It works wonders for some people but you
literally have to be fanatical about your supplements etc. You also will
likely need to use protein drink supplements to get in adequate nutrition.
As long as you are comfortable with that life, then there is nothing wrong
with going that route.

I don't know how tall you are, but trying to get to 150 just might
not be realistic. Shoot for 250 and see how feels. You can continue to
keep losing at the point you are at but it will be slow and will take a lot
of diligence, but you can do it! Make sure you check everything out to be
sure there isn't something unknown going on here. Good Luck!
