Question:
Can these not be taken now??
Hello all....I am most likely missing something here, but I have seen in several different posts, someone saying folks can't take Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs including Aspirin.... is this because "they" are sensitive to it, or is everyone who has had GBS now sensitive to it? Just wondering...thanks for the help! Love and light, Lisa — medium (posted on October 25, 2003)

Hi Lisa,
In my pre-op nutrition class we were told not to take them anymore due to
being so hard on the stomach. I think they cause you to be more at risk
for ulcers. Now I generally stick with tylenol. I hope that helps.

I had RNY but NSAIDS are definitely a no-no for us. I have severe
arthritis and my surgeon will allow me to take Celebrex when the pain is
unbearable but I can only take it for 5 consecutive days and then have to
be off it for 5 days. I had a total knee replacement on one leg this
summer and will have the other done next year - then hopefully, I won't
have a need for the pills.

My surgeon talked about this at one of his support groups a few months ago.
NSAIDS are definitely something to avoid. One of his patients had severe
gout pain and her son (a doctor) spoke to my surgeon about giving her
NSAIDs for just a short amount of time to try to clear it up. Well, it
took only three days for her new pouch to develop and ulcer. NSAIDs can be
hard on a "normal" stomach, but I think the lack of acids in the
pouch make us more susceptible to it.
