My arthritus is worse and spreading since WLS. It may have whether I had
WLS or not. There is no way of knowing. But it certainly has gotten MUCH
worse. My gout was bad during the rapid weight loss period. Now it is the
same as before WLS. However the arthitus in my knees, SO FAR, is'nt
bothering there. You did'nt refer to what disabilites so it is only as
guess as to what you may be talking about. Thankfully I never had any back
problems so I can't say there. I do know that with WLS, many people has
said there arthritus is better, but mine sure is'nt. We all have different
results.

Before surgery all I did was cry about arthritis pain... my knee, my back,
my hips... it was AWFUL. I have general osteoarthritis like you. After
surgery (I had surgery August 6th) there seems to be very little pain. The
surgeon took me off my arthritis meds and SO FAR I do not miss them. My
back does not hurt anymore at all. My knees occasionally hurt but they are
bone on bone with hardly any cartliage. My shoulder pain is gone... my
hips occassionally hurt when I lay down but I think I need a softer bed...
that would probably help. Any weight you lose will take some of the
pressure off those aching joints. That is GUARANTEED!!! God bless you in
your journey.

Sorry, I should think of Osteo as a disability I have had to deal with it
for years. I have had 5 surgeries on my legs (pre-RNY) and I was wheelchair
bound off and on for 3 years prior to surgery 4/2003. I am down 70lbs and
my osteo does not bother anywhere near as it did before. No more wheelchair
for me and I rarely use my cane now. I do have issues with sciatica, but
that too will be resolved soon without surgery. Without this surgery, I was
told that I would be confined full time to a wheelchair within a year due
to the arthritis - now, I no longer have that prognosis.
