Question:
Where can I find

My Dr has you mix "SANALAC",Nonfat Dry Milk with your Carnation Instant Breakfast for the first 6 weeks. Does anyone know where I can find it? Thanks Nancy P    — NANCY P. (posted on August 31, 2002)

Sanalac is simply dry skim milk powder (same as Carnation and store brands). Two concerns: milk has a lot of carbs, and some people develop a lactose intolerance post-op. You might look into getting some whey based protein shakes (soy is supposedly rough on the intestines and our new systems), which contain between 28-35 grams of protein and 2-5 grams of carbs per serving (I prefer saving my carbs for "real" food, not milk!) Vitalady.com is a great source for information, samples and there are websites (yahoo - ossg sites) that have information galore for you on this topic. Good luck.

It is just my opion, but if your doctor is the one suggesting you use this product, maybe he doesn't think that the 12 carbs in the dry milk is a waste? You also could add this to other things besides your milk and carnation instant breakfast. You could add it to your cream of wheat, instant masted potatoes, mix in with your sugarfree yogurt, cottage cheese. Anything to get in some more protien! just something to think about. Good luck with your decision. :)

Sanalac is skim milk powder. When you get WLS you put your life in the surgeons hands. At this point he is trying to heal your stomach. You have just gone through a major operation. I don't think that now is the time to second guess his treatment for recovery. Good Lux

Natural carbs nad artifical carbs are managed differently by the bosy. SO I am sure that your doc feels that the carbs are OK at this point. Besides, there are lots of people out there saying that whey protein is much better for you you and better absorbed then soy. Good Luck finding it. Ask your pharmacist if you can't, they may be able to special order it for you. Also, ask your surgeons other patients, someone has to know where to get it!!

I buy it a Super Wal-Mart in the same place as the other dry milks. I don't use it myslef, I stick with whey, but I did buy it for my 19 month old when I was weaning him off of formula. It's in the baking isle I think. Good luck.
