Question:
if you had a reversibe obeity surgery undo 12 years ago, can I have this one.??

I had the Vertical Banded Gasoply.....surgery done back in the early 80's and 8 years later had to have it undone..the band closed up my opening for my food to go down..I also had gained back about 60 lbs. of my weight back...since it has been several years since this surgery, now I am wanting to have this new one done..I have an appt. with a doctor on July 1..if he turns me down I am going to die..When I had my first obesity surgery I weighed 238, now in the year 2002 I weigh 274 and am only 5'0"..have no engery..I got along very well with the first surgery, till the band closed off my opening...    — PEGGY P. YES YOU CAN! The VBG failure is a sad common problem. Our surgeon revises them to RNYs all the time. You MAY have to shop for a surgeon, some specialize in the tougher cases like yours. I know a lady who had 3 belly surgeries plus VBG and still had the RNY LAP. Her surgery took 5+ hours. If your anywhere near pittsburgh see Dr philip schauer, my surgeon. He specializes in cases like this.<P> Now RELAX your on the way to a healthier happier YOU~!!

Five weeks ago today I had a revision from one of the old VBGs to RNY. I'll tell you up front, it's very painful and it took me quite a while to get over it. I had much more of a problem from exhaustion due to lack of sleep more than anything else. I kept waking up hungry during the night. Once I started eating "real" food that went away. I'm now doing GREAT and have already lost 25 pounds. That's only 10 less than I lost with the first surgery. Good luck!

I had a revision from a stomach stapling to a lap rny on 9/27/01/ It was the best thing I have ever done for myself/ I had the stomach stapling back in 1984/ and it worked for about 18 mos and then I began to regain the weight/ I had to struggle to keep myself from gaining and all the while I threw up a lot!!! When I had the stomach stapling I weighed 268/ On 9/27/01 I weighed 258/ just 10 lbs shy of my beginning weight/ I am now only 16 lbs from my goal of 154/ I am so thrilled, My surgery was lap, and it was not very painful, in fact, the surgery itself was a breeze/ If I can help in any way , please e-mail me at: [email protected]/ I wish you the best/ Patti Meadows/ ps. this may show up twice, as the system said it could not post my first one for some reason/
