Question:
has any one experienced diarhea 5 days & counting, non stop?

I've tried peptobismal, imodim ad, crackers, white rice, and nothing seems to help. I'm not dumping, nor am I eating to much. Could this be a serious issue?    — COURTNEYE D. (posted on March 31, 2002)

i couldn't see how far out from surgery you are. I had the runs from the third day of surgery for about a week. I don't know where it came from since I had a bowel prep, but anethesia does weird stuff to my body. Occasionally when I introduce new food I'll have episodes. Usually not for five days though. I think you should call your dr, make sure it's the runs and not just from eating a liquid or puree diet stage, which can cause looser than normal stools, and see if they can give you something. Good luck

I am pre-op but I have had long bouts of diarhea from IBS, irritable bowel syndrome and find taking Librax at least 45 mins before eating to help....it probably would be best to see your doc. TecuMish

Milk can do that. For me, clear broth sent me running. Sugars, even small amounts can do it. Or your meds? You've done all the logical things. My newborn had unrelenting D and they had me do this oddball thing, but it was all that worked. Rice WATER (you know, cook it in too much water with a little sweetener) and very weak tea (also sweetened just enough to get it in) and FINALLY, it worked. I just laid him on a pile of cloth diapers (it was a long time ago), and every few minutes, just removed it, and tried to let him be undisturbed as much as possible. But had to keep waking him up to get hydration in.

You don't say how far postop you are and what WLS you had. I've had diahrrea now for the past 8 weeks so I know how horrible it is. So far, nothing has helped although, I do now go for 3 or 4 days without diahrrea and then it starts again. If it's bad enough the docs can give you something for it...there are alot of meds depending on the problem. I hope that you get better soon but please try Michelle's solution first..it's natural and won't cause any other problems.
