Question:
Is it safe to have a bypass of 200-250 of the intestine?
I WEIGH 430 LBS AND I WOULD LIKE THE DOCTOR TO BYPASS 200-225. HE NOMALLY BYPASSES 150. IS IT REALLY SAFE TO HAVE 200-225 OR 250 BYPASSED? AND WILL I MISS ANY MORE NUTRIENTS BECAUSE OF HAVING SO MUCH BYPASSED? WILL IT HARM MY BODY TO HAVE THAT MUCH BYPASSED? THANK YOU — LORETTA P. (posted on December 26, 2001)

Yes, it\'s safe, IF you are supplemented correctly. If you think (or are
told) that you can \"eat\" enough of your basic 8 nutrients, then
no, it would not be safe. For that matter, a proximal is not totally safe
without a minimal supplementation for those basics.

Yes, only if you supplement adequately. I had everything bypassed except
75cm. With my surgery, there is no problem with Vit B12 deficiency, so we
don't have to supplement as much as other distals and only require about
50g's of protein/day. Make sure you know all the specifics of the
procedure you're getting. All the best..
