Question:
What happens that make some people need a revision of their original surgery?
What can I do to limit my need for this? — Betty M. (posted on July 6, 2001)

I had a VBG in 1982 and had a staple line disruption so I gained all of my
weight back in the last 3 years. I just had a revision to the RNY on May 1,
2001. I have lost 32 lbs so far and feeling great. The main reason for
revisions in the stomach pouch stretching over time and staple lines coming
un-done. The surgery I had in 1982 did not have a very high sucess rate.
From what I understand the VBG's that are being done now are much better.

Betty: Choose a surgery where they 'transect' your stomach. That is, they
cut the old stomach away from the new pouch. This way, the staple line
doesn't eventually open up and allow you to eat more food later.
