Most RNY patients find that they can eat larger amounts of liquid and
pureed foods than they can tolerate more solid food items. The reason is
that the liquids and purees travel on through the pouch fairly quickly,
leaving room for more volume. Solids stay in the pouch longer giving you
less room for more food and a quicker "full" feeling. The
creamed spinach is in the puree category....great source of iron and some
protein, but fairly high in calories and fat due to the cream. You haven't
done yourself or your pouch any harm by eating the spinach, but it is
important in the early post-op days to begin to look at food choices in
terms of the extra or unnecessary calories that they might contain in order
not to "sabotage" our surgeries in the months to come. Best
wishes!
