Question:
Why am I not losing weight quickly?
I am 2 weeks post-op and I have only lost 8 pounds! I am really shocked because I have been following my surgeons diet(4 tablespoons of pureed food, 3 times per day, followed by 2 oz. of skim milk 1/2 hour later). I am very depressed and feel like I have wasted my time (not to mention the pain) with this surgery. Please help! I am depressed! Normally when I am depressed I eat....Now I can't even enjoy that! — MICHELLE R. (posted on June 2, 2001)

Again, we must not compare our loss to anyone elses. I was guilty at that
stage too, but you know what I found out? That my body lost at its own pace
and in its own way. So I go 3-4 weeks without losing a pound. Then boom, I
drop five. You just need to learn how your body reacts and adjust your
expectations accordingly. If you are satisfied that you are complying with
the program (exercise, protien and water), then you'll just have to develop
patience, hon. Good luck to you.

I am 12 weeks postop and I am not losing as fast as I would like either. In
the first 4 weeks I lost 40 pounds, and then I was able to start eating a
little, and the weight started coming off very slowly. I have lost another
10 pounds, but the inches are coming off faster than the pounds. I have
started swimming and am checking into going to aerobics classes. Cause I
want this weight to come off, so I am one of the ones who really has to
work at it. Be patient, and hopefully you will have the success that you
want.

My dr. fussed at me for not eating every 2-3 hours. He said I will gain
weight if I don't start doing that. Eating more frequently, small portions
will keep your metabolism up and you will lose eight. Drink LOTS of water
too. LOTS of proteins. Your body may think it's in starvation mode. How can
anyone live on 4 TBS of anything 3 times a day ... that's not much (or
enough food!).

I had my surgery on May 22nd and have lost 9.5 lbs. While I was in the
hospital I gained 15 lbs. which was water weight. Do you gain water weight
in the hospital? I don't think you should worry but I understand your
disappointment. Just know you will loose eventually!
